How much is in a CO2 cartridge anyway?

Hi all - just had an elaborate battle with a flat tire, a whole 5 minutes into my ride...longest 1.5 miles ever. But as I was (ultimately unsuccessfully) dealing with my tire, the question came to mind - how much PSI do you expect to get out of one "standard" CO2 cartridge? When I used just one, I wasn't anywhere near filled up enough. I used 2, and still didn't feel full. Then I resorted the handpump, where I promptly broke the stem on the tire. Should I be packing 3 cartridges just to deal with one flat, or what?

Thanks!

a 12gram co2 cartridge should g et you to about 90-100 psi on a 700x23 tire. If you are running bigger tires, you will need more air.
a 16gram cartridge will give you about 120psi (Ithink). You should be fine with one cartridge. Bring 2 if you are unsure. You minus well practice at home so you don't go through the fiasco again.
