OK, i'm finally, FINALLY going to look more onto getting cycling shoes. I've been saving up in my "triathlon pot" so this is the next big purchase for me. Why do tris have to be so expensive?!

In any case, I need some advice/recommendations. I have very flat feet, and wanted to get some info on shoes that are flat-foot-friendly. Are there certain things I should look for and make sure that I keep an eye on? Certain brands better? Any advice will help. Thanks!

I also have very flat feet, and I overpronate like crazy. I can only run in Saucony shoes (and Brooks too, on occasion). However, it seems to me that flat-footedness is much less of an issue in cycling since your foot doesn't ever strike pavement.

The larger issue is getting a shoe that fits the contours of your foot (wide/narrow toebox). I wore a pair of Nike Poggio II shoes for the last couple years, and just bought a pair of SIDI T1 Triathlon shoes. Both pairs are very comfortable. I highly recommend the SIDI shoes.

What's absolutely critical in terms of your cycling shoe is to get one that's a tight fit. I wear 11.5 in running shoes, and a 10.5 in cycling. You want to make sure your foot doesn't wiggle.

Good luck, and happy shopping.

Try taking the insoles out of a piar of running shoes you dont use anymore. I had bought some "custom modable" ones that made my feet hurt, so on a whim i tried my running shoes insert. Works like a charm.

Along these lines, are there specific things to look for in the clipless? Like how much float one would recommend? No float? More float? Are there knee problems associated with flat footed bikers?

My wife had problems with this things too and the solutions was.... custom insoles. A little expensive but.....worth it.

Just talked to one of the trainers at my gym about this, and he suggested getting insoles by Specialized. Said they might help and they're way cheaper than custom made ones.
