Back in '97 when I was a lot heavier I started loosing weight through eating normally and a bit of running. I remember I had trouble with my knees then, but the troubles went away and I managed to do 10k running (or maybe I should say jogging cause it took me more than 1 hour  ) So I was prepared for some knee problems when I decided to go into triatlon. But I also was hoping that the 25 kilos of weightloss would help me with that.

I started with:
2 days: 1 minute joggin, 1 minute walking, 6 times
2 days: 3 minutes jogging, 3 minutes walking
2 days: 5 minutes jogging

then we went to Club la Santa at Lanzarote and there is a track with a softer underground then just running on te streets
monday after cycling: 5 minutes jogging
tuesday 5 minutes of very slow jogging, stretching, and then 10 minutes of jogging. The last 3 or 4 minutes I don't remember exactly my knees were killing me and the next day my runningfun was over.

I did'nt run anymore, but I kept on cycling and swimming for the rest of the week. My knees only got worse, they even start hurting while I was cycling on saturday :( Sunday we went home and monday I went to the fysio. He told my bursa's were inflamed and he told me to REST. I'm allowed to cycle for 10 minutes on my hometrainer.
Why this story? My injury is one of the smaller onces I understand, but I'm a little bit freightened how I have to go on with my running for the future. I thought I was building it up very smoothly but apperently I did not! So if anyone has some tips for me???

Injuries stink, but they do heal and they make us stonger. :)
The doc is right rest is best, but with that make sure you are icing the knee atleast 3 times a day for appx. 20min. at a time. If the swelling is real bad you can also try Asprin or IB profin.
Lastly take a look at your running shoes, they may be shot (cushioning is gone) If that is the case a new Hgh Cush. shoe will help wonders too.
Hope this advise is helpful.

Hi Phil,

Thanks for the advice. Cooling does bring relieve. :) My shoes are brandnew, so that shouldn't be the problem, I guess

Well I'm back here. The second time I went to my fysio I could point out more specific where my pain was situated. He told me that I had a "pes anserinus" inflammation. He treated it with ultrasound and I still had to rest. Last thursday he said it was oke to start excercising again.
So I started with 5 x 1 minute of jogging again and cyclingtrips for 2 hours. After each workout my knees hurt but just a little bit and after a couple of hours it dissappeared. But yesterday, the pain was intenser and did'nt go away. It is still there today. What am I supposed to do? Stop running and keep on cycling? Stop cycling also? Start icing and start taking ibuprofen to kill the inflammation? The pain I'm feeling right now is good to handle, but I'm afraid it will get worse...
