Hello, :)

I am looking for a new sleeveless tri suit, and discovered three that would be within my budget, and I can order in Europe without extra shipping and duties (across the ocean).

The one's I have found are:
Ironman Extreme Tri Sleeveless Suit
Orca Race Tri-Suit
TYR Solid Trisuit

For the most part they will be used for swimming and mountainbiking.

Which would be considered the best?:
fastest in the water.
durability
comfort
ride-comfort
abality to cope with heat

Any help would be appreciated, a link to a topic already on these is also welcome. :) (Searched but couldn't find anything)

MTBing in a tri suit? You enjoy getting beat up by rough dudes wearing baggies?

Keep this in mind: tri suits are designed for open water swims and racing. I wouldnt want to use one on a weekly basis, as it will likely break down pretty quick. The properties you are after: cooling, hydrophilic, and comfortmost often dictate thin materials. Those materials are often semi fragile and will not likely stand up to a MTB crash.

That said, the trifuel jerseys are TYR and I really like them. You wont catch me in a suit, as I prefer the diversity of the seperates. Orca makes top notch stuff, too (and usually looks pretty cool, though looking cool in a one piece tri suit aint gonna happen.)

Yeah, the whole tri suit getting damaged was one of my main worries too. If a shirt tears or short, it is cheaper to replace than a whole suit. The main thing is just trying to find clothes for four/five sports is pretty expensive.

Wear and tear will really be a problem(?)
Will use this 5-7 days a week, plus pool swimming several times a week. Will it hold-up?

Went to a store and it fitted great, that's why I am interested in the stuff. Not if it won't hold up though.

swim suit = $20usd
Lycra bike short = $40- 120 usd, you can use for both road and mtb (just no tri suits, PLEASE!)
You can buy 2 or three pair of spandex and a swim suit and still be doing ok $$ wise compared to a nice tri suit.
A tri suit will NOT hold up to 3-5 days a week use. its designed for MAYBE once a week. seperates will come out ahead in even the short run.

Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.

A tri suit is for racing and maybe brick workouts. Otherwise, use "traditional" gear for single discipline training. As mentioned above...a swimsuit is far cheaper than a trisuit and you will go through about 4 suits a year just in swimming. Chlorine is evil.

o.k. so would I be better of buying a trishort, and using that on warm days and if I want to practice swimming. Then using the normal bikeshorts and shirts for biking. Basically from what I understand is that the tri stuff should only be really used on races, and use other gear to train? Is that correct?

Yeah chlorine  I know.

Need new swimgear as well: That's one of the reasons why considering options.

Thank you kindly for your time. :)

I avoid tri one piece trisuits like the plague..,for two reasons:
Mid race "nature calls." Not a pee stop mind you but a "deuce."
Blown zippers. Broke one at a Du last year, 1 minute before the start. Had time to grab a t -shirt and tie a knot in the back before the gun went off.
Go with seperates...you'll be happier.
I'm lovin' my Trifuel top!

Let me tell you this:

If your last name is Hilton, Gates, Trump, Pitt etc etc.
Do what the Hell you want with your money man!!! If you want to sleep in a tri suit and you don´t mind then DO IT.

But if you are like all of us regular mortals.... then my advice goes in the same direction as everybody´s: don´t waste your money.... use a trisuit for tris only, for everything else buy cycling shorts which are thicker and more durable and a swim suit that is chlorine resistant (which I have to say will only make your swimsuit last a bit more but WILL be destroyed in a couple of months any ways!)

Hyperactive Trifueler!!!! (I refuse to let the status go :p)
