I've been having knee issues for the past month so. I was hit by a car on my bike in January and it's been iffy ever since so I finally went to the doctor and had an x-ray. I was expecting the report to come back clean and was surprised when it said there was evidence of mild osteoarthritis and bone spurs on my anterior patella.

My doctor did not say that I couldn't run anymore but she suggested I cut out hills and stick to dirt. I figured for the arthritis, I would just take Aleve or something. But has anyone had problems with bone spurs before? Should/Could I be doing something about that to cure/help the problem?

Bone spurs on feet ie the heel are often treated with a cortizone injection. This will reduce inflamation and pain. I would check back with the dr and see if he recommends anything else. Don't let a non running doctor tell you to stop running. IF you dont like his/her answer find a dr who specializes in athletes and understands where you are coming from :)

I have heard rumor that teampt.com (in Rancho on Haven, I think) is AWESOME. A friend had a near tear of achielles (a tri guy) and they kept him running and it feels pretty good now. Apparently the docs there are runners, and they just deal with athletes. Might be worth a call and see what they tell you.

Does he think it is from the accident, or just something the accident pushed to the surface?

*hug* Healing thoughts!!

She thinks the accident just pushed it to the surface. She's scheduling an MRI to make sure there's nothing else. I'll keep working it out. Thanks.

I have post traumatic arthritis and had post-traumatic bone spurs in my ankle due to an injury. I had orthroscopic surgery to remove the bone spurs and floating stuff. Then I had reconstructive surgery on the ligaments and a tendon.
I just live with the arthritis. I stretch a lot and keep on exercising. My Dr. says that I'll probably need an ankle joint fusion in 10 or 15 years but for now "just keep on having fun." I like that answer.
