I read somewhere that Hed 3's aren't exactly circular (at least when you first buy them)? Has anyone had a problem with this? Does it go away?

I have a pair of HED-3's - No issues at all. Haven't heard of any issues regarding that.
I do know that HED will sell some wheels at a much reduced price that don't measure up with their exacting quality standards. They still gaurantee them and all. Maybe that is what you are referring too?

I also have a pair of HED 3s, absolutely love them. Some of the HED 3s produced are slightly out of true, as are a certain percentage of any carbon wheel on the market. What happens is that every manufacturer inspects all wheels they make and choose which wheels make it out to the dealer, then the rejects get trashed or discounted. Every HED 3 sold at an authorized retailer is guaranteed to be true to within +/- 1.5 mm. HED also sells some of their less than perfect but still decent and "rideable" wheels at a discounted price if you're willing to buy them. Other than that, I'm not sure what you're asking.

If you wish to be out front, then act as if you were behind.

"Overall, I enjoyed racing the HED 3 Carbons except for three minor issues: (1) there is a slight hop in the wheels because they aren’t perfectly round; (2) they are slightly out of true and there's no way to true them; and (3) there is too much play in the hub causing the cassette to wobble slightly more than usual" from http://trigearreview.com/forms/Article.aspx?REVID=286

Now i have dual HED.3's and love them
on point (1) i noticed no hop mabye they were the discounted ones.
On point (2) all full carbon wheels with no conventional spokes are out of true, as said before HED standards are +/- 1.5mm, which would need hypersensitivety to notice

With (3) the cassette wobble is there to account for the fact the wheels are not perfectly true. There is a shim placed in the hub to allow the cassete to wobble when the wheel is freewheeling so the chain does not rip the cassette and wheel to bits, notice when the wheel is being driven by pedaling action the cassette rotates perfectly on axis with no "wobble"

all in all a great wheel, the turbine sound is great for intimidation out on course, everyone stops and turns round to see you whiz past!
