I know the initial response is "whenever i can", but how many people out there train first thing in the a.m.?? I've just about survived my first winter of training, and am ready to tackle my first full season. As i figure out my race schedule, the only way to get in enough training hours is to wake up early and do some training then. Who else out there set's the alarm a couple hours early to log in more hours??? :(

thx.

I usually ride my bike early in the morning.

Swimming is always before dinner time. Even though it's been a long time since I don't swim because I just moved from another city.

And running gets between them.

Ya my alarm goes off a little before 4am in the morning - Morning is for strength training, bike or run. Get to work before 7am. After work usually 6pm - then head for the pool.
Weekends everything is early as well - gotta free up time for the family. :)

Dear lord...I avoid early morning like the plaigue. When I ride to work I leave around 6:00 to get there, shower and get coffee. Run at lunch then ride/swim (when I start the swimming again) in the evening. In the summer I do my long runs and rides in the afternoon if possible to simulate the heat from a race as much as possible.

I move like a 50 year old first thing in the morning (Oh..right) so most of my training happens in the afternoon and evening. I have been managing to run twice a week in the morning, lately, but I just feel all akimbo. If I'm up for an hour before I run...ok, but to get out of bed and run right away is ...bleech!
Will ride the trainer in the early am once in awhile and thats ok.
5 am is ok but just can't do 4..unless it's race morning.

I run about 3pm just by habit, which is good because that's the time I start the run leg of my IM. Train the body to do the run at the same time every day that's my motto.

I like to ride in the A.M. in the spring and summer or at the peak heat of the day, since that's when I bike during IM, even though people say to me, "How can you ride a bike when it's so hot?"

The only trouble is that damn jumping into a cold lake first thing in the morning stuff. Brrrr! I haven't mastered that one so as you can see from my chart in the "total hours" thread, I just don't swim much until July/August when I can enjoy the lake swim for an hour.

Yup. Good old Keanu Reeves. Blah. hahaha.

Man, I idolize you guys (n girls) who can wake up that early to train. I have a hard time dragging myself out of bed before 9a.m. Although I do go to bed around 1:30a.m. due to school, work, homework, and the girlfriend.

A better question would be - what time do you guys go to bed? In order to wake up that early?!

Its def. whenever I can. But assuming all goes well I wake up at 5, at the gym at 6. Swim for roughly an hour, then normally bike on the trainer for an hour. Then class from 9-12. Then if I don't have appts I'll put in a long workout either on the bike or the run. Then class from 6-9, then type reports from my day's worth of work from 9-12. But it all depends. Half the time I have appts from 12-6 so instead I'll just take a 1-2 hour nap which helps alot with the going to bed at midnight waking up at 5am part. That's my biggest challenge so far is simply getting enough sleep to train at the desired intensity.

Had to work this morning (7 am) but have no class today so I'm going to go swim for an hour, come back and sleep for 2 hours, and then go run for an hour. And then work on one of my cars. Its tight sometimes but I really enjoy my workouts, and that is what keeps getting me out of bed.

I am not a 4am guy...but I do weak up....at 5 or 5:30am(I run a systems check before I get out of bed ;) ), and I go to bed between 10:30 or 12 depending how much work....or if I have to prepare class for my students the next day....depends...

i think i might just take you up on that challenge...however, it's pretty dark out @ 4:30 in the a.m. to be on the bike...

i've come to the conclusion that motorists aren't used to seeing people training that early, as i almost got hit TWICE this a.m. on my run; once by a school bus (had to jump into a snow bank as he came within inches of the curb) and the other by a pickup truck (who started verring toward me, then quickly swerved as i flailed my arms to get his attention)...
