This is just a very basic question from a non-swimming person.

When a 50m olympic pool is split into two sides with that bridge thing in the middle, is one side 25m and the other 25y? I ask because I seem to turn much faster laps on one side of the pool.

Most pools are 50M x 25M. Lanes are usually set up length-wise (50M, long course) or width-wise (25M, short course).

I've never seen a pool divided in the middle, with lanes still running length-wise. I would suppose they would be even 25M and 25M, but if your times are divergent, then it's probably uneven.

Where do you swim that sets lanes up like that?

I've seen pools set up like that at schools and such. Never swam one, though. Its likely that they are in fact a bit uneven, even if its not the general rule. Contractors tend to mess things up from time to time..

Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.

One side is 25m; the other is 25yd. The pool on campus is exactly like that. 6 lanes of 25m/25yds and 2 of 50m.

If your swimming in a 50m pool with a bulkhead (that is what the bridge is called), then if you move the bulkhead into the middle of the pool it is still split into 25 meters and 25 meters. Because you can't just remove a bulkhead from a pool. This is of course if there aren't 2 bulkheads for lets say a 50m pool not including the diving well. Then they would be able to split it into 25 meter, 25 yard, and have plenty of room for the diving well

If your not sure how long your pool (or pool half) is, just ask the pool staff. They're always more than happy to answer those sort of questions! I swim at 3 different pools over the summer; one's 25m, another is 30.5m, and third is 33.3m. The distance calculation math always gives me lots to think about while swimming!

I believe the big one we have here can be done either 2x25 yard or 2x25meter.Usually for meets they split the pool so they can have events on both ends

Also watch out for mixed metric/english pools.
Mine is 50m long and 25 yards wide

My daughter does a lot of meets in a 50 meter pool that gets split into two 25 yard pools.
