I am looking for some sizing help. I'm 5'8.5'', I have an inseam of 31.8 inches and somewhat long arms.

Right now I'm riding a 54cm c-t road bike but want to buy a tri specific bike for this season.

Do you think 54cm is the right frame size and would 52cm be too small. It seems that alot of bike sizing suggestions are get a smaller frame.

Thanks

Different brands size differently. That said, stepping down a size for the tri bike is usually a good idea. But try out both your road size and the step down if you can. Make sure they make any stem changes and such on both bikes as your try em out. Fit on a tri bike can be somewhat trickey, and some shops would love to treat it like a road fit (leg angle/ extension and arm reach) , but its just not that simple. Dont let em rush you. If they want to sell you the bike, they wont be rushing you too much. Try to go during a weekday.

Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.

Were it available to you, you wouldn't even think about size and a competent salesperson/fitter would give you the right size bike or let you try a few to see which felt best.

Are you asking this because you are going to buy instead through the mail?

Thanks for your replies. I honestly probably won't buy from a store, budget is always a concern and ebay has some stellar deals... I actually feel bad going into a store and having them size me knowing I won't buy anything from them. I also would like to understand the sizing on my own.

Ok, well then. There are some shops that do fitting for you for $100 or so. I suggest you just tell them ou plan on buying from Ebay and that you will pay them to fit the bike to you and you just want to know what size you should get. Fit goes beyond just frame size.

A proper fitting session adjusts seat hight, seat angle, seat position, aerobar position/width and probably other things I am not aware of.

Maybe they wil help you out.

There are a lot of web sites with bike fitting advice.

Lots of good advice so far. I'd just add that any bike on ebay should have a manufacturer's web site that would have frame geometry/sizing info. so do your research before u bid.

Good luck!

Yes, I will definitely do those. I guess what I was wondering was, Do you have a tri bike with the same size frame "c-t" as your road bike or smaller?
