Hey all,

actually I wasn’t sure where to put this thread. Race reports, wasn’t too sure about that one, so I guess I’ll just put it here…

I just came back from Lanzarote, where I trained at Club laSanta for 12 days.
I went with a trainings buddy of mine. He is doing the Ironman Lanzarote this year.
For me, it was base building for The Marc Herremans Classic ( ½ Ironman) and just accompanying him and training together. Since we both have the same coach it was easy to fine tune our training schedules.

Club laSanta is a great place to stay, our apartment was a few meters from the Olympic swimming pool and the track. They have a bike repair and you can rent a bike there for the duration, if you book in advance. One thing though…. Be smart, save money and don’t buy it at their on site supermercado ( supermarket), take your lazy ass to the town of laSanta ( 20 min walk) and save a little dinero. You’ve got a fridge, stove, oven, water boiler and some dishes, so if you do want to cook yourself… knock yourself out.
The food is okay, breakfast and dinner is basically an all you can eat buffet with salads, pasta, fruit and even fatty foods if you have a craving. But they have a pizza parlour in the club as well, all the stuff about it you can find on the web, so enough advertising.
They charge unbelievable prices for some things.. I thought they priced so things wrong so I asked why that Orca tri short was supposed to be 120 euros… did Chris McCormack wear it when he went sub 8 at Roth?…. but that was just the price for the shorts… RIIIGGGHHTT!

Anyway, enough about that, the Island was a real nice place to train, even in February .
Temps of 20-25 degrees with moderate to gusty winds and SUN! SPF 30 and I still got a tan!
We bike the entire 180k Ironman bike course with the owners of PRO BIKE. The local bike store in laSanta right across the supermarket and if you’re going to train on the Island of Lanzarote, GO SEE THOSE GUYS! They’ll inform you about who’s coming over to train in laSanta ( while I was there Alex Taubert was there, An Alair Juhanson was coming next week and so was Faris Al-Sultan) and they’ll help you out with ANY bike related issues, gear, nutrition, you name it. We went over there to check out the store and ended up riding the IM bike course with them on a Sunday ( which they do EVERY WEEK) and making new friends. SO sue me, I’m advertising, go see Robin and Maria at Pro Bike. They are the-Ying to the Club laSanta-Yang. (Club LaSanta being highly UN-PERSONAL sometimes)

But training is excellent there, come over and go nuts, go completely apeshit!
Beautiful weather, nice roads ( mostly), nice climbs and a laid back lifestyle.
Did my swimming in the pool, ( where they organise mini-tri’s every week, or ½ marathons and 10k runs) did my biking on the IM bike course, the climbs, the views! Did my bricks and running, man it was awesome!!!

Biking 4-5-6 hours and running an hour afterwards. Or running 2 hours, swimming 2-3k it was great, man I had a blast.
I trained about 45hours, swam about 20k, biked over 1000k and ran about 85k in total. Burned Loads of calories in just 12 days!!!
Man I'll take a 180km bike ride anywhere.. from now on.. I never did 180, this was the first time and it was in Lanzarote.. I was dead afterwards!

I have a few pictures on my MSN blog ( click the link underneath my signature and check my photo gallery)
So save some money and come on over, you’ll have a blast…

The Lanzarote Ironman bike course is pretty tough.
There are 3 big climbs:
-Montana's del Feugo
-Haria
-Mirador Del Rio ( de last two are pretty close after one another)
Then the last 40km is just up-down-up-down-up down, little bits, but they real sap your strength. The roads are fairly good, but not on all parts and if you're sh*t out of luck, it'll be a windy day ( like mine, when I rode it).

Total meters you climb 2551

NIce work, Noel.
Now that's what I call a vacation!

I should organize something like that for Penticton, you know, at prices IMers can afford.

have to reply to this, as I searched the net for any comments on that so called Pro Bike shop....
Service - Good if they think you will spend LOTS of money. However, they have no technical knowledge of anything they sell... Hmm, for a bike shop with all this bling. Shame.
I was part of a large group visiting Club La Santa, and to be honest all they did was slag off the company! Surely with the shop being in such a remote area, without Club La Santa they wouldn't exist. Watch your words Robin & Maria I think.
One of the guys on our group bought a pair of Expensive gloves, the stiching came undone, they didnt replace them, said they had to send them back. Hmm.... strange, it was the same day that he bought them. Not good customer service. A real pitty, as it made some of the groups holiday a bad experience due to the one visit in this bike shop. Be warned all.
Very rude comments made by the man in the shop to customers.
