I have done a sprint and a whole, whole lot of marathons. The oly is coming up in the next two months and the half Iron I have in sept. I have decided to challenge myself to the m-dot in 06 maybe 07 if i can't get ready fast enough... What books to every one reccomend picking up. I am headed of to borders now any opinions?

Not sure exactly what you are looking for as there are many different types of books out there. Some go more in depth or are geared toward the veteran, others are for newbies. I personally liked "Be Iron Fit" by Don Fink. Pretty good mix of in depth and newbie stuff.

Has some good training programs in it. Three different levels, Competitive, Intermediate and Just Finish. It obviously is geared toward completing the IM distance.

Ken Meirke has some good ones out there too. He will probably chime in with some suggestions.

Good luck on your search!

I just picked up Sports Nutrition for Endurance Athletes by Monique Ryan today. I'm not sure how good it is yet. I noticed someone on trifuel recommended it so I thought I'd give it a try.

I would suggest the Triathlete's Training Bible by Joe Friel. It has everything you need to know. It can help you plan a year for sprint, oly, HIM and IM schedules. It also has an appendix for each sport with workouts for building power, force, anaerobic threshold, etc. It's a great book.

Going Long, just finished it, even though I'm only training for a halfIM right now, I thought it was pretty informative, maybe all the IM books say the same thing, but this is the only one I've read and thought it was pretty good. It deals well with 6month to multiple year planning for your training program and has everything from beginner swim technique to more advanced swim, cycling and run drills/workouts.

I have the Triathlete's Training BIble and I'm honestly not that into it. I found more information by just being a web geek seeking out triathlon and sport websites.

I really enjoyed "It's not about the Bike" by Lance Armstrong. It is a good psychological motivator in endurance sports and in enduring life's rigors.

Well I picked up the bible and tri training in 4 hours (yeah I know I can't train for the IM in 4 hours a week)... I just wanna finish the ironman I really could care less what my time is as long as I don't finish dead last thats ok with me.

If you are looking at doing an IM. "Going Long" would be my recommendation as someone stated above.

Also you could check out Gale Bernhardt's " Training Plans for Multisport Athletes" which contains specific training plans from Sprint to IM.
