Nutrition on the run/InfinIT
I've tried InfinIT and it's awesome. Set your specifics on the site, and create your 'home brew'. You can adjust the kind of mixture for different types of workouts. I've heard nothing but good things about these guys.
I shoot to take in 50% of the calories I'm burning while running per hour. For me, that means about 250. 1200 calories/hour for running seems a little high--but if you are really burning that (which makes sense for your weight at about a 6PMH pace), then no wonder you're not feeling great. Now, most people bump up against a barrier of 300-400 cal./hour, just because that's all most digestive tracts can handle. Some people claim to be able to handle more, but you should at least go for 400/hours.
Like tdb said, Infinit will give you a mix. that gives you what it thinks is the right #calories per hour. I use it, it's great.
I'm interested in this as well, and you're right, it's a topic of much interest (and importance). I have been contemplating trying Infinit as I have heard wonderful things about them too, particularly that they stand behdind their product. And if you're not happy, they'll refund your money.
Also, in terms of determining calorie needs, this is a great article from Infinit's site (it pertains to cycling but would be helpful to determine overall hourly intake, I believe).

I used gel, Gu2O and a Cliff bar at my December marathon, and that worked OK for me. But racing in the Texas heat this summer/fall, I am contemplating going strictly liquid for nutrition this year.
I'll post if I order and test Infinit. Good luck!

I have an infinit question as well. Since they charge the same price no matter what the concentration, what if I ordered a more concentrated mix than i would like to use, then mixed less of it together each time so i could get more servings out of it? I am sorry if someone gets mad for me trying to circimvent the system, but i am trying to figure out something cheap that works for me.
Lots of Infinit questions lately - You can bump up the calories to about 350+ per serving (2 scoops). Can't imagine that there would be any issue with using less than a serving and thereby getting some additional servings out of it. Just keep the balances for the electrolytes etc inline with how you plan to use it. I think that they would even help you with that in your formulation. Their support people are really helpful.

Ok, so I looked at this today, and i had to do some serious math. It's not that expensive. My formulation (from the quiz) came out to 284 calories/serving. Now, for a 25 serving jug, that's 7,100 calories/jug. My PowerBar gels are 110 calories each. So, one InfinIT jug is roughly the equivalent of 64 gels. With shipping, the jug costs me $46.62... that works out to about 73¢ a serving... cheaper than buying the gels. Not as cheap as other powder products, but let's just say that I am seriously considering giving it a shot....
After saying, zOMGwtfbbq!?!? $48??? I did the math, and it kind of makes sense.

Hi all - I know there are a thousand threads about general nutrition, and a lot of specific IM nutrition tips and even a few that touch on my issue, but I didn't see anything that really satisfied my question. Hoping you can help.
Using some data from last years's Half IM and marathon, and looking at my trusty Garmin 301, I calculate that I'm burning about 1000-1200 calories/hour just on the run. My routine so far - which I am experimenting with - is about 200 calories of Gatorade and another 100/hour (I take a GU about every 4 miles) - giving me 300 calories. Is that enough? It doesn't feel like it - even getting off the bike well fortified, by the tail end of the run I start to really feel nutritionally fatigued. If that combination of words even makes sense. Thing is, this combination essentially gives me the right amount of carbs and sodium. So I can't just start inhaling more of everything, or I'll pay for it. Do I need more calories? Where can I get them? What's a sensible hourly caloric intake on the run for a 185 pound, 32 year old age group hack (in case any nutritionists are reading...)?
Also, hearing A LOT about InfinIT, and if it's the Miracle Elixer I'm hearing it is, I can concoct my own brew that might solve all my problems, with precisely the right amounts of everything. Has anybody tried it?
Thanks!!!!
