What sport would you add to the triathlon and where would you put it?

I might put a rollerblading event in there between the bike and run and make it equal in distance to the run event.

I would have a cage match as the last event. You've finished the Ironman, now you have to transition into the Octagon...especially good in close race finishes.

If you wish to be out front, then act as if you were behind.

shooting (like biathlons) you can't transition from one to the next until you hit all your targets.

ditch the swim for mountain biking

mountain bike, shoot, run, shoot, road bike.

Or maybe just add a set of croquet wickets at the end...

or maybe drinking... either in the transitions or at the end

The ego-strut would be good. Points for how quickly you forgot about all the problems you had and how sick you felt. Double points for getting pissed because you were beaten by someone older or bigger on a cheaper bike.Triple points for drafting on the bike and then claiming to hate drafters.
The list could go on!

you could mix the ironman with the strongman...swim 2.4 miles...then pull a truck into the transition area...bike 112 miles....and carry the 5 atlas stones and put them into place....then run your marathon and finish with the keg toss....then you transition into a recliner to enjoy a beer...

I like Kyilee's idea: water, wheels, land, air, and.. water.

You finish the run.
Climb a hundred foot Spruce tree (we have plenty of 'em around here)
grab a zip line for a 500' flight to splashdown into the lake where you started.

First one to hit the water wins!

..and drowns. heh.

Kind of like adventure racing without the crocodiles and leeches.

I'm thinking after you get off the bike you have to do a caber toss.
(the Scottish telephone pole toss thing)
You have to wear a kilt thru all the events, even the swim.

Either that or drinking the night before and completeing the event the next day.

I would have to quit if they added rollerblading...

the only time I tried it I looked great for about 5' then I guess I leaned backwards...

people who saw it said it looked like it hurt... but I don't remember a thing...

I might say xc skiing, but I think that the weather necessary for that would conflict with the weather necessary for swimming outdoors... It would be fun though.

I like the idea of climbing and zip lining too though. Maybe kayaking too.

For a triathlete or cyclist, I think you can only do one or the other - wear a kilt or shave your legs. Call me old fashioned but I'd hate to see a guy with shaved legs wear a kilt. I kinda think you need to be short, stocky, and hairy to don a kilt

Remember, I am an advocate for my hairy legs.

Another Idea would be swim, bike, run, and swim again

Wait! Depends on what kind of pie we are talking about. ;)
I am short (5'7" and shrinking) and hairy (from the neck down) so kilts are fine.
But you're right I may have to rethink the shaved legs/ kilt thing.

maybe that should be a personal decision? I mean, I know that some people under 21 want to tri, and there are some of us that don't drink. Although, seeing those of us that don't drink use that event after an IM could make for some great stories.

I think rock climbing would be fun. After the bike and before the run.

Target shooting is good too. But with a bow and arrow.

Combine:
* Tequila (1 part)
* Triple sec (1 part)
* Lemon Lime Gatorade (3 parts)
* Ice (3 parts)

--> Put all in blender to crush ice and mix into a 'slushy'.
--> Enjoy in a salt rimmed (for much needed sodium) glass until you feel sufficently re-hydrated :D

Ok Matt...I can see the rock climb part...But none of this gym/ top rope/sport, choss.
I'm thinking a lead of at least a hundred foot 5.8,maybe 5.9, hand crack pinching to tips. Manky pro, with a crater risk....on a 1 inch swami belt. :) Or maybe an off-width! Now THAT would be exciting!
