the only chance that i have to swim is in a 12 meter pool so i am tethered to the side. with that i am not for sure how long it is going to take me to swim a 1500 meter race. any thoughts. i am a definite MOP swimmer.
so how long do i need to be swimming for when i train.
If I'm reading you correctly, you are using a waist attachment swimming thingy for use when you don't have a normal sized pool. If this is correct, than I'd say 20-25 min. continuous swim would do you fine. That's for the mental side of it. I'd say use the 12m pool for speedwork stuff, but I'm not sure if that small of a pool would do any good. If anything, a few session a week of 20 or so minutes continuous would be a good start.
When swimming with a tether, change your pace, speed up and slow down the tether I used was in a 25m pool and I can at sprint speed get to end of 25m, then I would slow down and it would pull me back to half way then I apply power to touch the end of the pool. I would change pace several times.
An MOP swimmer will cover 1500m in probably a little less than 30 minutes. Of course it all depends on conditions, but I would guestimate around 27.

since i am in a small pool i have the short tether. so i can't go very far with it at all.
The one thing it does is make it harder to swim. You have to constatly pull. there is no gliding through the water to make it easier on your arms. Constant resistance.
What's a mop?

Ahh thanks for the clarification. I didn't know what a MOP was either! (lol) This was a good post b/c I am right now struggling on how much of what should I do it seems. I'm in my 7th week of base training and I feel still as if I'm no where at all w/ it. Swimmin' has been one of the rough spots b/c I don't know what I should be doin'. I've been swimming for about 30 min., switchin' up paces and what not so I guess with some of the answers here I'm okay for now. I am def. not ready for anything faster than that yet. Wish I had a partner to just kick my @ss in gear here and get a move on!
All in all, thanks for the posts. Any other ideas for swimming fill it out on a post or get at me with ideas. I'm def. realizin' I need a coach or someone to tell me what to do for workouts, me doin' it isn't cuttin' it! (lol)
