My 1st Tri in 7 weeks
This distance is shorter than the sprint distances I usually see. Most sprints seem to be around 1/2 mile swim, 13-20 mile bike, 5K (3.1 mi) run.
Your race is pretty short so I wouldn't worry too much about extending your base training too much and work more on brick workouts.
I'd say speedwork is the way to go. The distances are so short thgat base work doesn't really apply here. Just train hard, and race even harder. If I were you, I'd do 3 hard weeks, 1 easier week, then 2 hard weeks and a 1 week taper for the 7 weeks up until your race. Although it is a short week, you want to give your body a little bit of time to get used to what you are asking it to do, thus, the 1 easier week.

I will go with the plan above...it is a short distance tri.....
Let me tell you I just did my first one a few weeks ago...and it was a blast....Adiction...Adiction....Adiction....
Best of luck with your trainning...
Try to put a little more info in your profile...will be nice to get the chance to know you

I think it is a great idea to keep the training hard and fast considering the short distances for this tri.
Ill work on brick workouts too. I havent attempted that just yet but tomorrow is as good a day as any to give it a go.
I will aim to do 3 interval sessions for each leg and at least 3 brick work outs. a week.
By intervals I mean I'll do all out bursts for a few minutes and have a recovery phase (eg. ladders for running). Plus, to keep up with the long distance training I'll include 1 long run and 1 long ride a week.
Thanks for the advice. This site is great and everyone is very supportive. I come here as part of my light reading that I do during the day, as opposed to the heavy reading I do on politics (my other passion).
Have a good one.

Yup, for those distances - train for speed. Doings bricks is a must. Also you can practice your transitions when doing those.

Hello trifuelers,
My first triathlon is in 7 weeks. Ive only been training for two weeks for this particular sport but have always maintained good fitness with all three legs and do some strength training as well.
The distances are 200m, 7km, 3km (218 yards/4 and a bit miles/approx 2 mile).
So, its short therefore I assume a sprint distance tri.
My question is then, how should I be training for something like this? Should I do base/endurance training for the first 3 weeks then perhaps incorporate some interval and sprint workouts for the next 3 weeks and then have a week where I taper down before the race??
For the time being, Im just training hard and loving it.
