Marathon in 75 days?
Hi all, I was running today and for some reason got and itch to do a marathon. There is the OKC memorial marathon on April 19(75 days from now). Would it even be possible to do my first marathon with this amount of training time? I did a half-IM last Sep. and can run for quite awhile with little discomfort if that makes any differenct at all. Thanks.
If you have been running and have a good base you can do it.
You want to make sure you don't bulid up too fast (10% rule)
Go with your longer runs on surfaces with more give too.

I did the Mardi Gras marathon last weekend, having decided only 4wks ahead of time that I wanted to. I did the Army Ten Miler last October, but other than that haven't run over a half marathon in two years. But, I took it easy. Enjoyed the experience without focusing on my time, and finished it. Actually recovered more quickly than either of my earlier marathons.
So, yes I think with 2-1/2months of prep, it's more than possible to complete a marathon (just not necessarily compete).
good luck!

Yeah I don't plan on being competitive at all, I just want to finish. Could I just adapt this plan to my time?
You're 20-24 yrs old and ran a 1/2 IM 4 months ago?
Of course you can finish a marathon 75 days from now.
I'm twice your age, have a sprained ankle, haven't run more than 10k but twice in the last six months, and I'm bloody sure I can finish a marathon mid-May.
Don't be a wimp. Go for it.
;)
Good Luck,

Follow beads advice..skip the intervals and focus on a finish and tempo runs or marathon pace runs once a week, a good long run once a week, you should have no problem...finishing.
Good luck and let us know how it goes!

POC - we are of the same mindset. I see this boy's age and
wonder what holds this whipper snapper back? Too much thinking and not enough Just Do It. Older, wiser, confident and more experienced geezers know that you can do anything you really want to accomplish. Might not be pretty but I'm sure with 75 days of training I could get thru an IM.
I'm with the old farts too...I did my first 50 miler at 42 with a weekly average of 40 miles and TWO eighteen milers!
So, enough of the frilly advice...Do it lad, and see what happens! And I have to agree with the Mutt too...I think you can get through IM with 75 days...I've met folks who had a good base and did IMLP on 42 days!

Alright alright, I'm gonna do it. I forgot to attach the link earlier, I was thinking of just starting on week 5 or something on this plan. Either that or just run run and run. Thanks for all of the "encouraging " words, haha.

I've done it, but my best advice is take a training plan, Novice even and see what week you'd be in right now and decide how comfortable you feel with this weeks long run. If you are struggling with it, I'm sure you could still train, but it might not be happy. If you're comfortable with a week 10 or 11 distance then go for it. I am a personal fan of Hal Higdon's marathon plans, and have followed or at least used them as guidelines for my last 5 marathons.

Good luck!
