Trainer Issues

Havin' some issues I think with my trainer yet I c ould be totally wrong and worryin' like usual.

Set up my trainer last week and went on it 3 times this week. Everytime I went on I had a new experience which had some positives and negatives. I'm askin' too to deal with my terminology here due to me bein' the rookie learnin' here...

Negatives:
-smell of burnin' rubber, a black streak is formin' yet following the manuel my tire isn't pressing against the rotater thing-a-ma-jig. (see what I mean?)
-switching gears; when I switch gears it doesn't feel like it is either easier or harder...pretty much pedalin' the same it feels like. (if you know what I mean)

I'm just gettin' frustrated b/c I don't know if I am doin' it right. I was following a DVD doin' a time trial workout which was awesome yet when I switched from relaxin' to faster, just didn't feel right. Is it def. different on a trainer when on the road? Doh. ::Sniff:: Help me! (lol)

Loved the other posts too on the tires. I guess I am goin' to need to get out to my LBS and get me some tires for when I can head outside. Need a new set anyways.

It is well known that trainers eat tires. Get a nice cheap wire bead set for the indoor stuff. Maybe even find a cheap set of used rims to mount em on so you dont have to change tires every time you ride the trainer.

What kind of trainer do you have? Some of em are notorious for poor "road feel" and dont really respond to changes in intensity well.

Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.
