I compete in a sleeveless IronMan wetsuit (the lower end one). I really like the fit!
But I want to throw out a hypothetical question to you...I know how important fit is, but say that all things about fit were equal among the different brands and price ranges, are any of the wetsuits considered more buoyant than their competitors?
I am just curious...I'm not in the market to buy another one...

The thicker the neoprene, the more float you'll have. Also, the more neoprene, the more float. 3/4 legs wont float as well as whole ones, and long sleeves better than sleeveless. You shouldnt see any discreptancy between brands, as I understand it there is really only two major neoprene suppliers worldwide.

also, the rules say 5mm is the maximum thickness for the wetsuits.

Hey what if you wore a neoprene swim cap, gloves, and booties? Would that make a difference?

The booties and gloves would KILL you momentum. Ask any diver who has taken off his fins trying to board a boat. Although, i guess, ya might be a little more bouyant. Not to the point of it being noticable or helpful, though.
