Greetings from Salt Lake City
Welcome to Trifuel.
What type of race plans do you have?

Hey RV,
I plan to do mostly sprint distance tris this summer since that is what is most common here in Utah, but I also hope to an Olympic distance or two, and hopefully a half Iron in 2007.
Hi S-Dave,
Welcome to the Trifuel, the coolest place to be next to Alta and Snowbird, Park city, brighton, Sun Valley, Sun dance, and Solitude. I go to Salt Lake just about every year, and I have family living there. I am also a skier, but I am a better triathlete than skiier, but that doesn't say much for my triathloning, hence that is why I am always looking for good advice here in the trifuel, to get better. I hope you enjoy yourself with us, and welcome!!!!

Utah's gotta be a cool place to live. I love th proximity of the desert and mountains. If the zoo there didnt suck so bad, I'd consider SLC. Welcome to the board!
Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.
Hey Triguy, what ya mean there, "crapy zoo"!!!! I have a great memory as a very little girl eating some sweet crackers with chocolate frosting, on a bench near the polar bear, and thinking, these Americans have really weird food.

There have been a few too many instances of problems at that zoo. Turn over rate is pretty high, and it gets no respect on the national level. Crappy. Blech. Curators shudder when i mention the place.

Thanks for the welcome Blitz and Triguy--I'm looking forward to getting some good info off these forums. I've been on the Runner's World forums for quite a while and find that I can always get some good tips from other athletes. Salt Lake is a great place to live, but I would agree the zoo isn't the greatest. I lived in Columbia, SC from 2000-2005 and for a comparable-sized city, Columbia's Riverbanks Zoo is much better than Hogle Zoo.
However, Emigration Canyon, which sits just above the zoo, is a great bike ride!

There is a very cool diner at the mouth of that canyon, when it is the one Im thinking of, does it go to park city? Wow, I wish I were in Utah now some how. Where do you live in Sandy, that is just beneath the cottonwood canyon (Alta and Snowbird) isn't it. Utah Skiing is cool, and much cheaper than Switzerland, but I must say, I love our alps when they are covered in snow, and just letting go. Ju hu!

You're probably thinking of Ruth's Diner, at the mouth of Emigration Canyon--very cool place to eat and hang out. Sandy is in fact the city that includes both Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons. Little Cottonwood Canyon (home to Snowbird and Alta) is about 7 minutes from my driveway; Big Cottonwood Canyon (home to Solitude and Brighton) is about 12 minutes away. The skiing, hiking, and mountain biking in both canyons is stellar.
I went to Switzerland in high school with my folks and would love to go back someday. What tri events do you have over there?

Hello,
I'm new to these forums, although I have been posting on the Runner's World marathon and master's forums for a couple of years. I did a couple of sprint triathlons with my brother last year, on my mountain bike, and have decided to make a real leap into the sport this year.
I grew up in Iowa, where I was a competitive swimmer from age 8-18, really haven't done much swimming as an adult, but have done a lot of running (5 marathons) and mountain biking.
I just bought a 2005 Specialized Transition Elite triathlon bike on Ebay which I had fit and assembled at my local bike shop last week. I'm looking forward to riding a road bike in races this summer.
I live in Sandy, UT, which is a suburb of Salt Lake City, about 15 miles south of downtown. With all the snow in the mountains, it is great to live less than 30 minutes from Snowbird, Alta, and several other great ski areas.
I always tell people that is why I run and stay fit--to keep in shape for ski season!
