"What it Takes" Movie
I was wondering that too. The documentary covers the training and lives of some top triathletes leading up to the 05 Kona race so I imagine it's now getting into post-production unless they're still following the athletes through some period after the race.
I am looking forward to it. There is a "contact us" link on the official site but the web script doesn't seem to work...
I have heard that there have been repeated delays and to check the website for updates.
Obviously when it is up and running. :D
'Nothing to it, but to do it!'
On the site it says sometime in 2005 or 2006. Should be soon.
There is a trailer on Peter Reid's site, if you haven't seen it.
The trailer looks promising.
I wonder how much broad appeal it has. For the likes of us, it's like candy, but how interesting is the sport of triathlon to the general population?
The distribution plans for the end audiences (us) indicated that it would be through the USA Triathlon group and local triathlon clubs. So they know their market. Anxious to view the entire movie.
I was also wondering about that earlier this week. I hope it makes it out soon. It looks like a really neat movie.
Hopefully it will come out very soon. I've been dying to see it after seeing the preview months ago. Like someone mentioned, serious candy for the tri community.

I'm guessing it will have a broad appeal (so are the producers obviously!)
after all the general public loves watching other people suffer, take for example, Fear Factor, WWE Raw, UFC, Big Losers, American Idol Auditions (Sic 'em, Simon!) etc.
They sit there on their couches with the cheesies and a Lite Beer saying,
"Those guys must be crazy to do that!"
then they pick up the cell phone and order pizza, designer drugs, and a new Ford pick-up.

Just as a note, we've been linked a couple times on the actual site here.
"Care more than others think is wise, risk more than others think is safe, dream more than others think is practical, expect more than others think is possible."
Interesting...Somebody who can answer the question obviously knows about this, yet they don't give any input! I need to see that movie!

March of the Penguins?
My Tri Team was fortunate enough to catch an advance screening of the film on Tuesday. I can't really predict how much broad appeal it will have, but for triathletes it's a no-brainer: you must see this movie.
The great thing about this film (and indeed, about the entire sport) is that you can specifically relate to everything the athletes are saying. When they're talking about the conditions at Wildflower, you can say "yup, I was there too". (well I can't say that myself, but you get the idea.) You'll never feel that kind of connection to a Superbowl champion.
In spite of the irony of the athletes being called "normal people" in the teaser, they really DO seem normal in the film. In fact, they often don't even look very athletic. But we all know the extraordinary things they can do. They get frustrated with training, with illnesses, with relationships. Just like normal people. Go figure.

Jealousy rages within me!!
kidding...but seriously, did you happen to have a small camcorder with which to record the movie? I reeeeealy want to watch it. :D

To quote Spicoli, "you dick!" No seriously though, that is awesome. Jealousy is a weakness, but I am having a weak moment right now.

I can do a bulk order at a discount and then resell to you guys (maybe for a small profit in case I don't sell them all) I'd have to buy minimum of 50 so that's a little bit of an investment. You think their are 50 of you who'd want a copy? More?
I'll be in Kona next week so I'll try to catch the premiere there and if it's good I'll throw down to buy a case.
Does trifuel qualify as a tri club for the $5.00 discount??
I'm sure I can. I could just do it that way. Let me shoot them an email.
Excelent!!! Tribro let us know if we can get a discount.
Hyperactive Trifueler!!!! (I refuse to let the status go :p)
If you are going to get a better rate for getting a bulk order of 50 why don't you take pre-orders for those interested.
We can PM you or something with our info.
I'll definitely get one!:D
'Nothing to it, but to do it!'
Hell yeah... Sign me up for one!
Count me too Tribro!!!
I will for sure get a copy....!!

I had the chance to see this movie a few months ago. Of the four bios, I found Peter Reid's story to be the most human and touching. I didn't expect that. He really bares himself and you discover intimate parts of him that makes you respect him and empathize a great deal.
It's a wonderful documentary that captures the life of these amazing athletes for a year. What I found most shocking is that there really is no "glamour" even in the top ranks of Triathlon. There is none of the Tiger Woods wealth allocated by sponsors to these athletes. They seem to lead modest lives despite their legendary status with none of the trappings of wealth and unlimited resources.
I've been dying to post more on here for a while, as I'm just as excited about this movie as you are. Some of you may have guessed that I have something to do with the movie, based on prior posts, and you would be correct. I shot and edited the film.
Anyway, just wanted to give you a heads up that the DVD will go on sale this Monday (October 16th) at www.witmovie.com
There is also a limited theatrical release set to begin before the Chicago Marathon in Chicago on October 20 and 21st. The rest of the schedule is available at:
http://www.witmovie.com/when.and.where.php
If you are a member of a triathlon club or team, we will be offering you a discount code to reward your many hours of training which will be valid on witmovie.com. Your membership coordinator or club leader should have some information about that. If they don't, encourage them to contact us at
We hope you enjoy the film!

I would be in for a pre order.
Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.
I'm in for a copy!
I'll talk to them while in Kona, either for a discount code or if not I'll buy a bunch and then sell at the discount price. Stay tuned...
Looks awsome I love this stuff.
Once again...... count me in for either one or the other Tribro!

Does anyone know when the movie What It Takes is going to be released? It seems like a pretty interesting movie, as it follows four IM athletes in their training for a championship finish.
