This is my second year of doing endurance events so i still consider myself a newbie (in most areas at least) and i have two questions for the more seasoned athletes.

1) I am running a Half marathon (my first) in April and i was wondering about my HR zone. Should i run the whole thing in Zone 4(sub threshold) or is that pushing too hard?

2) i am planning a "C" race about 3 weeks before the Half Marathon. How fast should i run that?

Thanks for all of the help!
Chris

1. You list you run ability as 9 out of 10 so one could assume you must be pretty strong on the run. You can best answer that question but this is a race. How well do you want to race? Is the race part of your triathlon training plan?
2.What is the distance of your "C" race and how well do you want to do at the 1/2 marathon? If the "C" race is sprint or olympic distance it should not have much impact on your 1/2 marathon as it is a "c" race.

1) Run like your being chased and don't stop until you get to the finish...I'm serious. Just run the damn thing, hard. Then ice your legs and then take a hot shower or go in the spa. Repeat cycle several times.
2) If it is a sprint or olympic distance, go all out. There is no reason why you wouldn't recover fully in 3 days.

edit: because it is a "c" race, you don't have to worry about time or anything like that, so maybe try and go for a really fast bike and then see how you hold up on the run.
