Hello from Eastern PA
Hello Al,
Welcome to the forum. You have definitely come to the right place. You will find a lot of people here with the same goals you have so even if there's no one in your area, you won't feel alone. Good luck with your training. :) Cancun will be nice, huh?

Nice to have you join in.

Feel free to fire off any inquiries and also to update everyone as to how your races and training go. What bike did you select?

Thank you for your responses. It is good to know that there are knowledgeable and friendly people here to talk to. My first exposure to triathlon was this year when I accompanied a friend to Tempe. He was competing in the Soma Half Ironman. It was an awesome experience! It was at this point that I decided that I had to get involved in Tri. I am presently working on technique and building my endurance in the pool but I have a long, long way to go. I am very happy with my bike. I bought a Felt B2. I rode it outside yesterday for a few miles and it is so smooth. I look forward to Spring so that I can take it out on a longer run. One thing though, I feel that the trainer is tougher than riding it outside. Is this common?

The trainer can be a little tougher workout as there is no coasting or stopping for traffic etc. but also no headwinds either. Really depends on if you are just spinning or working through various intervals etc. On one of the Spinervals sessions, Coach Troy indicated that the 3 hour workout was comparable to 4 hours on the road. We all would rather be on the road of course, but you can definitely get in a good workout in on the trainer, And those of us in cold weather climates, it is often our only option. Again welcome to the very addictative world of Tri's!

Welcome to the forum. And believe me you're not as alone as I am.
There has to be something in your area, given that you're about 10 miles from Bicycling Magazine's headquarters. And not much farther than that from the velodrome in T-town. (Those flea markets are awesome!)
As for clubs, the closest one I know of are either in N. Delaware/Philly area or over in NJ.

skylandscycling.com - Northwest NJ

Hope this helps.

Welcome. I am in NJ too. I might be doing the Devilman too.
:D
Nothing to it, but to do it
I'm in Philly. Might be doing Devilman also. I'm a member of Guy's Multisport.

Hi - I am new to triathlons. Although I have been running for a few years. I have just started swimming and biking. In fact, I just bought my bike about two weeks ago and have not yet had an opportunity to take it off the trainer. The weather looks good today so I may have an opportunity to take it outside.
I have registered for two half ironmans (or is it ironmen?) in '06. The Devilman in May and Cancun in September.
I feel very alone at this point. Is anyone aware of any triathlon clubs in the Eastern PA/Central NJ area?
Regards,
Al Foley
