Bike trainer and spare wheel?

I definitely go with the old tires. Usually whatever I finish the season with - and then a new set in the spring.

I got a new bike this past spring and this will be the first time on the bike trainer with it. I've heard different stories from using a different tire to using a spare wheel so you don't damage and/or ware you tire down. I'm not talking about Zipp wheels either, I have Bontrager Select Aero, 700c wheels. What do you guys do?
