Hello guys,

I have a question in regards improving the swimming technique. Last time I attended a coached class was 25 years ago :-S Not only I remember almost nothing but also the free-style technique has changed over the years, hasn’t it? I’m looking for a swimming class that I can accommodate my schedule to, but so far I have no luck and I thought that maybe some video or DVD would help me to get started on improving my technique till I get a coached class.

My question would be two-fold. First (I hope not to violate the forum rules with this question, let me know if I do, please!), I would ask you your opinion about the DVD “Freestyle made easy from T. Laughlin –Total Immersion. Second, I’d like to ask you about other material that might help. I’m a newbie so basic stuff will help me too, but I don’t want to get burnt or overloaded with too much information that I can’t assimilate with my basic knowledge of the sport.

As usual, I’ll greatly appreciate your help!

Have you all a great day,

Jorge

Jorge,

I think Total Immersion is great and believe quite a few athletes on this forum use this technique as well. I would say to take a look, but nothing beats having a coach on the scene.

Whatever your plan of attack get in the water first and see exactly where you stand both as far as fitness and technique.

I did TI. I bought Triathlon Swimming Made Easy book and Freestyle Made Easy DVD. I stopped swimming and just did TI drills for months. Even now my warmup is 700 yards with fistgloves on doing various TI focus drills and then I oftem move to some drills that incorporate stroke counts. Even though I have been swimming consistenty for years and years when I did TI my swimming really improved. Not right away but over about a 7 or 8 month period I took over 6 minutes off my 1500 time and reduced the effort I expend in swimming that distance. I'd highly recommend the book and the DVD (I think you need both - one without the other is somewhat incomplete). I also took a few lessons with a TI certified coach. It was expensive but helpful.

Good luck.

Thank you guys!!
I really appreciate your comments. I'll definitively put that book and DVD in my "wish list" then. I was looking at some free mpegs that I downloaded from some pages that another trifuel member suggested and I can tell I need a loooot of help.

I'll try contacting Rejean Lacoursiere, he's a few minutes from my home. Thank you geochuck!

Once again, thank you all of you guys for your help.
Take care,

Jorge
