I have a question to any and everyone on here. What do you do during the off season to keep your sanity?? I just want to race so badly, maybe it is diffrent for me because I haven't been in one yet. I guess I am a competitive person who wants to participate in some races. maybe it would be different if I had a group of people to train with. Do you find competition amoung training partners and groups? Is this selfish of me to want to compete against people I train with? I guess I need to live in the US down in Florida or something.

Matt :D

I read Trifuel for sanity and race my dog for competition.

Off-season is the time to cross-train as well as to start building your base for the upcoming season.
Not really the time for racing or high intensity training.
That is the tough part of the off-season - going easy - staying areobic. So, target the races that you want to compete in, establish your training schedule around those and work on your form and your base.

Try doing an occasional running race. It'll help feed your competitive jones and doing some fast training every once in a while during your base building isn't a bad thing.

What is "off season?" Don't get me wrong, I love the race but most only "race" 5-8 times a year. I enjoy the training as much as the racing so it's rock 'n roll six days a week year 'round.
Admittedly there are times in the fall that the training intensity/duration drops but that all has its purpose.

If you think of each training workout as a stepping stone toward your goal(s) you may not feel such a compelling need to compete.

I guess the problem is that I have no bench mark for competing as I have not yet been in a race. I think it will change after my first race as I will know my weaknesses better and know what to look forward to. The other thing that will help is that I am moving to a bigger city in five days and I hope to find training partners to share the workouts and experiences with. I guess for now I just have to keep training and hope to improve my non existant times that are in my head.
