TCR Aero 1 or plain TCR?
Just my two cents-
I don't think Giant changed their frames much from 2004 to 2005 but with one aero and one regular I don't think it matters much anyway. I feel there is more of a difference between 105 and Ultegra that would sway me towards the Ultegra bike as long as it is low mileage like you said.
I would also be curious about the bar set up on each bike? If one is fully tri set up and the other is road I might lean towards the road.

Hey,
heres my 2cents advice. I am also a newbie when it comes to bikes.
Well personally i would go for the TCR Aero. Considering it comes with a better grpset and things like wheels. Both bike are of similar price though one is brand new and the other a 2nd hand bike. But since the latte bike is pretty well maintained and has a pretty gd set-up i would go for it.
Frameset although impt i would go for durability espec so a training bike. Get a value for money bike train and log as much mileage on it . When u hv extra cash and become more motivated.u can always get a racing/better bike.
To me the most impt is a gd grpset, wheels and hub.

The TCR is a very, very shallow "tri" bike. It's more of a time trial bike. The seat tube angle of 75 degrees is a bit more shallow than the more shallow end of tri geometry (the current standard is 76, going up to 79 or 80) Whats one degree? Quite a bit considering that two degree lower than 75 is in standard road geometry range.
Not to say its a bad bike, not at all, just dont let someone sell it to you making false claims. The TCR is a solid bike for sure, and if it truely has that few miles on it, I would jump on the Aero1. Especially if it is speced as it is on the web site. Easton stem and handle bars for $1k? And pro race tires? Pretty good.

This is the Aero minus the Selle Italia seat and Spinergy wheelset.

I knew about the seat angle being 75 degrees, but is that necessarily bad? I figure it might suit me better since it does have drop bars on it. This way I get the best of both worlds. A pretty good aero bike that doesn't have a really extreme seat angle for long rides. The bike is immaculate btw. Thanks for the help.
I dunno if i would put drop bars on it. The seat angle is enough to mess up your body geometry, but not enough to truly benefit from the tri positioning...

Read it. ALL of it! Good stuff, ya might learn something ;)
Even without a SI Flite saddle, (which i wouldnt wish on a triathlete in aero, by the way, or the spinergy wheelset, $1k for that frame and Ultrega group is a good deal.

How old are the Wheels? Do they even still make Spinergy Rev X wheels. (you're referring to the 4 spoke CF wheels, I believe) There have been a lot of questions around these wheels, and the number of catastrpohic failures. I'm not sure I'd want to buy a used set.
I'm not sure how old the wheels are but they are in good condition. I am getting the bike tomorrow and plan on selling the wheels on ebay or something in order to purchase a more conventional training/race wheel. Oh and BTW, I'm not putting the drop bars on there, they come on that model stock. Thanks for the help.
I have the TCR Aero 1 2003 model, a little different in components, but a great bike, would highly recommend getting the aero version. It does however have the bullhorns instead of drop bars, and I love them, would never go back to drops.
Yeah, I got the Aero and love it. Great ride, can't wait to race it!
Giant bikes are great. I've had several and am plannning to go back.(Not happy with what I'm riding now) I don't think you can go wrong. The Aero is a great bike and the Ultegra makes it more so. and sounds like a good price.

Hi, I am about to purchase a new bike and am having trouble deciding b/w a Giant TCR Aero 1(2004) or a TCR 2(2005). This will be my only bike as far training goes. The Aero has a set of Spinergy Rev X wheels on it plus a Selle Italia seat with Ti rails. It is used, but in excellent condition(maybe 100 miles on it). The TCR 2 is brand new. I can get either bike for $1000, but am not sure which would be better. The Aero is Ultegra throughout while the TCR 2 is 105. I am planning on doing multiple races this year and future years, but this is only my second season. The Aero would be my first tri specific bike. Thanks for any input.
