Calf Tight/Sore

I'm having a lot of trouble lately with a lot of tightness/soreness durning my runs on the out sides of calves( lateral if your anatomical inclined), and also just a few inches above my ankle where your calf muscle begins.

Its just started happenin a week or two ago, I think its either

-i need new shoes
-i need motion control shoes
-the ninth of a mile track i run on in the winter if finnally getting to me

I'm inclined to think its the last because my inside leg is the one that feels it the most.

Any ideas or stretches to help out?

I think you could be right. When I lived in Chicago the gym I worked out at in the winter had a little track like that (I think 10th of a mile) and all of the personal trainers recommended not using it and running on the treadmills in place. Most all of the people I ever saw using that track were doing lunges or a few lap cool down/ warm up easy paced run.

do you always run the same direction or do you switch directions to vary the muscle use?

you might want to warm them up in a hot tub or with a heating pad and then massage and/or stretch them a couple times for day and then hop on the treadmill for a week and see how you feel then.

If the pain goes away, you know your answer. If not, you could try new shoes. If that doesn't relieve it I would see a doc who can refer you to a physical therapist who can work out the problem with massage, stretches and exercises.
