Hi, I need to buy a trainer if I want to ride this winter and I was looking at lot online but I do not know if they are good or not. I have heard that the CyclOps is good but it is expensive. Is the Blackburn Fluid any good? And what about the Elite Fluid, which is made in italy,? Thanks for the info, Todd

There was *just* another thread about this; try using the search function. Otherwise, I recommend the Kurt Kinetic, which has served me perfectly for a year and a half.

Hey,

the Elite trainer I've had for 2 years was pretty cool, but my triathlon coach ( who also works for Tacx) wrote an article in the Dutch Triathlon - magazine about bike trainers / ergotrainers.
I had the Elite Travel Mag, but I'm switching to the Tacx Flow. Mostly because it's more quiet and there's a display the comes with the flow, which allows me to see rpm/cadance(spelling?), watts and heart rate (, although I will be wearing my Polar). And I'm getting one, because through my coach I get a 75% discount :D
The Elite trainer had a cable and a switch for me to adjust the bike trainers' resistance.
Doesn't realy matter what brand you get. CyclOps is pretty popular in the US I hear, but in Europe, it's mostly Elite and Tacx.
Get one that isn't too noisy, doesn't devour your back tire ( although Tacx has special trainer-tires that don't wear down fast)
Make sure that it is stable enough for you to stand up and simulate a "standing climb"
If you have the space for it, get one and (for the winter) hook up your bike and leave it there. Put a towel or a yoga mat underneath it to absorb the vibrations/dampen the sound of the trainer.
bad weather? Pop in a DVD and start training....
Ow yeah, don't know if you guys know, but Tacx has 3 DVD's out that let you bike the Marmot, Alpe d'Huez and some other race. You don't have to hook it up to your pc/laptop, it's a dvd, just put it in your dvd-player and you can bike the course for 60-90 mins. I found out that it works better for me then just another movie, while training...

I am not sure. You sold me. Maybe you should apply for a job. :D

I am on the TACX website now.

I have a lower-end magnetic trainer. Wish I would have spent more money on a fluid trainer.
My magnetic is noisy and kinda jerky.

Thanks for the info. I am not sure which one I am going to get yet. But I am definitely going with a fluid because they are quieter. I will definitely use it for years which is my reasoning for considering the CycleOps. More nights of staring at the screen considering trainers ahead. Pleading with Santa and my mom after that. I hate shopping. Thanks again. todd

I'm on my second season of a nashbar fluid trainer. Seems to be pretty good value for the money.

I have also been looking extensively online for trainers and I think I am leaning toward the 1up. I was wondering if anyone out there has one and could comment on it? It seems almost too good to be true.

I just purchased the Cycleops Fluid 2 trainer. Only used it about 5 times so far, but I'm verry happy with it. It's alot quiter than I expected. I also couldn't decide between the Fluid 2 and the 1up trainer. The main reason I went with the Fluid 2 was cost. Modernbike.com is selling it for about $222.00. It also comes with the free CTS Time Trial DVD which is an addded bonus. You can also save about $5.00 if you go with the 2005 model.
