I would, but unfortunately I love my mountain bike too. It was the mountain bike that got me into triathlons. :) I used to work for mtbr.com

I with you triguy. I've never "raced"on a mtb, but that's where I started as well - defiinitely my first love. There's something about being out on the trails on a beautiful fall (spring/winter/summer) day and riding - oh and the mud - LOVE THE MUD!!! But before you kick me off the site too, I also love my road bike.........

I started MTB racing before doing tris, and so far I haven't done any proper road tris. I've just done 5 xterras. I keep telling myself I'll get a proper olympic in, but it just doesn't get me as excited as an Xterra or a mountain bike race. I've done some road racing and crits, and been generally turned off by it.
As long as there isn't any snow or ice on the road - I'm on my road bike - Don't want her to get jealous of another bike!

I'm glad for the show of support! I LOVE MTBR.com, Tribro. It's good to know there a bunch of other dirt fanatics out there. I guess all those who don't just havent had the chance to experience the ultimate rush on wheels.

Have you run at Alafai before???? That's some CRAZY stuff to be running on (depending on the course route) I dont think I would want to run a 10K there! Good Luck!!I'm not quite in good enough run shape for a 1/2 there. I could pull off a road 1/2 now, but am waiting for ~Christmas time for that. a 1/2 @ Alafai is a full anywhere else

Triguy...from what I understand, this course only has "rolling hills". There is a race in Feb....the Florida Challenge Trail Run... that looks much more technical and challenging, from the pictures. I don't think I'm ready for that either....but maybe by Feb...
Do you ride your MTB at Alafia? And are doing any adventure racing around here?

I ride Alafai a bit. ~every other week or so. I havent done any ARs yet, I am debating the Squiggy Classic in March. MY problem is lack of reliable teammates. My training partners work schedule SUCKS and our third teammate is a Marine stationed in GA who never makes it down for practice when he says he will.
If the course sticks to River Loop and the horse trails, its all good. I forgot about the two different foot races.

I hear you about the reliability factor...my "friend" / coach who was supposed to train for and go to IM Germany with me this year bailed in the midst of training in May! I was on my own for the big training...but it probably worked out better that way....you gotta do IM all ALONE!
I got into tri 3 years ago...but really wanted to adventure race. I hope to get a team together and try a race next season....but like you said, its difficult to find people with my schedule and the commitment to DO IT!

I'm with you guys. I'd LOVE to do an adventure race, but between finding teammates and the fact that there just aren't that many AR's around, I don't know if it will ever happen. I have a friend who has done a couple, and he said it was the most fun he has ever had,,,,,,,

Now I´m gonna get kicked off this board........ I don´t even own a road bike ! Haven´t been on one since 91.
We just started tris this year and what we do is slap slicks on the old MTB and go at it that way !
I´ve been a mountain biker for the past 14 years, XC, trail riding, and I also spent 2 years (from ´01 to ´03) doing just DH, all the shutling up the hill got me to 220 lb, I´ve come down to 180 since I started training for tris........ so I´ve done quite a bit on the bike.
I love the challenge of a tri and I definitely got fit training for them, but, when I come down to it..... I´m a mountain biker above all else....... it´s being able to go places you wouldn´t go to if it weren´t for the MTB, it´s the rush of going down a section of technical singletrack, that feeling in the pit of your stomach when you do a 6 ft. drop, the conquering of that 3000 ft. climb...... and being able to share all that with friends........ yup, I just love it !

I like this article. Makes me feel a little less weird about loving my MTB. I'm not quite as auite abou it as the author, but nonethless. The first off road group ride of the season last weekend, I show up and a few guys from the tri team seemed surprised to see me there. "I didn't knwo you mountain biked?!"
You couldnt pry my MTB away from me for anything. If for some reason I could only pick one way to ride, I could only have one bike, it would be a MTB. I would just do Xterras instead of regular tris. The climbs, the bombs, the high speed banked turns, the rush of it all... Here is looking forward to Sunday!
