Roller Agony
AH HA HA! I was the exact same way a few weeks ago. I can still only go for 10- 15 minutes before i mess up. But I just rode the trainer for a week, and my next road ride was sooooo smooooooth! Ionly spent my first two rides in the doorframe. I now ride between my bed and desk. The desk props me up and the bed is soft for falls. Though,no when I mess up on the rollers, Iend up doing a track stand on the side rail.

Rollers are Super! But don't tell anyone else. They'll get smooth and cool like us!
I rode em for years..then went to trainers (remember Racermate?) And now I've gone back to rollers.
Nothing like putting on the DVD of TDF and spinning with the greats. It is a great way to build a smooth spin and bike handling skills, and we all know it's bike skills or hospital bills! Next season..oh how smooth you will be.
GG you WILL get better at the balance thing..it just takes time. Best of luck.

Good News for me I guess. The rollers will be a good investment. Looking forward to having another go at them this weekend.
Now, if my job will let me stay at home so I can ride them!!!!
On the road, for the third week in a row, at least I get to go home on weekends!

ok - so other than looking buttery smooth on the bike, what are the benefits of rollers over a fluid trainer? I've seen them and ride a fluid, but I have no idea other than balance.

Balance, technique, reduced boredom. With the right rollers, you get just a good of a workout as you would on the road. I spin the same gear combo on the rollers as I do on the road to achieve the same speed. And you can't let your mind wander too much, or else your wheel goes, then YOU do!
Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.
My hope is that by becoming 'Buttery Smooth', it will translate into more speed and faster times. I sometimes find myself wandering on the road, and that is just wasted effort on my part.

Hey Yall,
Just got my set of Cycle-Ops Rollers setup, took me 30 seconds to unpack them and get them on the floor. Adjusted them, got out the bike, and hopped aboard.
OK, I suck.... didn't fall off, but came really really close a number of times, until I grabbed hold of a doorframe to avoid falling. As long as I'm holding on to soemthing, I seem ok, but I'm pretty wobbly if I let go of the doorframe. Guess I'll hold onto the doorframe and let go a little at a time until I get comfortable.
This will be great for my riding form, if I can keep my upper body still enough to stay on the rollers, I ought to be fast come next season!!!!
