My fraternity brother is a captain in the army in Tikrit right now. I plan on sending him some items (NC State newsletter, Local newspaper, beef jerky, books, etc..). I was hoping to get an idea for another item or two to send him. What would you want if you were out there?

I know this isn't really the right forum, but I don't think there is one. Besides ya'll are pretty good with suggestions! Thanks.

So....what you're saying is....benching 1.5 times your body weight 10+ times is NOT good for triathletes?! OOOOOH! :D

Good idea...any chicks on this site have a pic of them that they'd want to send to a brave young man serving his country?

My friends'son is in Iraq and besides what you listed, we sent dvd's, microwave popcorn and all the local mags we could find. Another friend also sent some phone cards.

Hope this helps - Ant

Is there anything else that he can't easily get -- deodorant, maybe those disposable toothwipes (for when he can't use toothbrush/paste in the field), babywipes, any other toiletries. Powerbars, homemade cookies - anything food related that he can't get in the mess-hall. Sure go ahead, the latest issue of Maxim or Men's Health or Playboy.

Even better, arther than one big package break it into two or three smaller packages and mail them 3 or 4 days apart -- it's that many more times that he gets something at mail call.

All great ideas.

I also would suggest lots of mail.
When I was activated for the first Gulf War getting mail at mail call was something everyone looked forward to. It was great hearing from the real world.

If you think he wouldn't mind spread his mailing address around.

I got letters from plenty of people I didn't know before and it was great.

I wrote everyone back so the letter writing kept me busy as the letter reading.

Letters and pix from some cute young ladies was nice too :D

A big can of Timmie's coffee to remind me of home.

Nylon stockings which which to negotiate with the local girls?

Oh, right. This is Iraq we're talking about.
We'll stick with the coffee.

Don't forget the silly stuff. You'd be surprised how fast a paddle ball tournament can break out. How far someone can throw a nerf football, or the silly mini saucers. Waterballoons are great. It seems the most trivial things became some of my favorites. If in doubt send it. Football scores from Mondays paper, NASCAR standings, even if they arrive and they are a couple of weeks old. To much stuff to send at one time.....stretch it out over a week. The more the better. 2 small packages over a week or two is better then one big one.

While your at it....ask your friend if there is someone who is not getting mail...maybe no family and could use some support , then put them up for adoption at Soldiersangels.org. I know this isn't the place but everyone should check out this website if time permits.

Tell your "brother" we are proud of him.....copy this thread and send it.

Any homemade baked goods. When I was deployed, that was the number one item. My mother would send plenty of cookies in ziplocs over in a care package. The whole team went nuts for that stuff.

Maybe you can get some of those young ladies at N.C. State to bake some treats for the good Capt.
