EEwwwww...that can't be good for my bike!
Don't hit the white lines when they repaint those. You'll end up with a white speckeled under and back side. :)

Is that experience talking? ;)
So....what you're saying is....benching 1.5 times your body weight 10+ times is NOT good for triathletes?! OOOOOH! :D
last november I crashed, and grinded myself thru a recently tarred and oil-slicked surface. that black stuff is still on my mountain bike, i thought i got it all. my jersey, no matter how many times I wash it with oxy clean still has the black 'road rash' all over it.
you can get it off the bike, but you're going to spend some time doing it. don't let it harden!
I think deisel will help. Get a can/cup, what ever of that, dip a rag in it and wipe the bike with the deisel rag.
Good luck Jose

One of my neighbors is a pretty serious cyclist and an even bigger cantankerous old fart.
Kinda like some of the people on Trifuel…just kidding.
He was out riding one time right after some work crews were trimming bushes and trees at the side of the road. They didn’t do a real good job of cleaning up afterwards and there was some debris left behind (here in AZ we have some pretty wicked thorns on just about every stinking bush and tree that can reek havoc on your tires).
Anyway, he got 2 flats and was so peeved that he complained to the city maintenance department.
To my astonishment they reimbursed him for the cost of 2 new tubes.
Maybe you could complain to city hall and get a new chain and cassette out of the deal.
Not to mention new shorts if you get a white backside!

LOL, that's funny...but since I do work FOR the Town, complaining to the Town might not be in my best interest. But yeah, getting reimbursed for two tubes is more than I'd expect!

citrus based cleaner should work. I'd definitely clean the chain thoroughly and then re lube it.
There's a debate on using diesel. Lot's of pro bike race mechanics use it. ( Of course all that equipment is replaced frequently too.) Leonard Zinn at Velonews.com has a discussion of the pors and cons of diesel.
PUT ON GLOVES....I am reading through the ideas of use of chemicals to remove the asphalt, all of which might work but there was no warning of gloving up first. Your hands will take a beating from the diesel. Use a glove it will save your hands, we don't want to add to your problems.

My normal route for....well....everything (route to work/home and route to my gym/work) is being repaved right now. And earlier this week I got on the new asphalt, I was flying! But the asphalt would stick on my chain and I heard a nice grinding sound. It sent chills up my spine....knowing that rocks were making a home in my bike. Well, today they were paving the second half of the road and the grinding of asphalt in my chain again was sending chills up my spine.....this CAN'T be good for my components.
I'm just wondering how hard it's going to be to get asphalt off my bike!
