I read this off the RoadBikeRider.com Newsletter Issue No. 214 - 10/06/05: Interbike 2005

What do you guys think?

Leave it to a triathlete to think outside the box (or inside the bottle). The Gel-Bot was invented by a tri guy who didn't like the disruption of opening gel packets while trying to ride fast in events. It's a normal-looking wide-mouth water bottle with an "energy core" inside that you load with your favorite gel. Then you fill the main bottle with water. The energy core connects to the bottle's nozzle, which emits one of three things when the bottle is squeezed: only gel, gel and water together, only water. What comes out is determined by whether the nozzle is down, half up or fully up. The demo at the Gel-Bot booth made it seem like it would work. The energy core unscrews for cleaning and might fit other brands of wide-mouth bottles as well. The Gel-Bot comes in two sizes for $10.95 and $11.95. http://www.gel-bot.com

interesting.... it would suck if that bottle got ejected during a ride, tho!. loose water AND gel. But a solid idea. Pretty cool stuff.

Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.

It's an innovative idea. Nice having the water right with the gel.
Trying to determine if that would cause me to have to carry more bottles on the bike rather than simply doing a toss and replace. Gel packets are pretty manageable to use. Seems like a bit of manipulation to set the valve to the right setting. Wonder how durable the valve is?
I'd probably not use it.

I use those gel flasks (and add a bit of water so the gell all comes out) instead of packets because I have enough problems keeping the bike in motion with out trying to mess with the packet. This might be cool!
