what did i get into??
Great first tri!
Not so great pic - Must be cuz you were moving so fast!
Organizing transitions is an important part of racing Tris.
Look to get some Yankz for your running shoes - that'll save time instead of tieing laces. I'm all for sockless - but lots of varying opinions on that one.
And areobars will certainly help the bike - as will the HEDs - I ride those - great choice.
Welcome to the addicting world of triathlons!

Excellent, congratulations. Yeah all those aero wheels sure sound nice on the pro's bike's. I think I might stick a card in my spokes to make more noise than them in my next race. Maybe it will distract them enough for me to catch up!! lol

so saturday oct. 1st i completed my first triathlon.. ohh hoo ho was it a good time.. sprint distance (.25 mi swim, 12.4 mi bike, 3.1 mi run)
1:15:57 total -- 20th of 117, 3rd in M20-24
7:20 swim - felt very relaxed.. i guess surfing and waterpolo definately prepared me for "the washingmachine" because i had no problems with people touching me or swiming so close... could have swam a lot faster but i didnt want to expend too much energy (wasnt sure if i needed it for the bike or run)... 12th split
PICTURE-->done with the swim!
1:49 t1 - hahaha i dont even know where to start.. got to my bag... stared for about 15 seconds thinking "crap what do i need"... ripped my bib so i had to reattach that.. forgot my sunglasses (ironic cause i had just posted about wearing glasses v. sunglasses - HA I DIDNT TAKE ANY!!).. forgot to grab a gel.. fell off my bike during the mounting!!! - thought oh well got that out of the way.. at least it wasnt during the ride
40:34 bike - the course was fairly hilly and i needed to take drinks of water every 5 minutes in the beginning -- super thirsty... there were a couple hills that i was down to about 9 mph and on the final hill i had to click down to my lowest gear.. almost thought i was going to have to walk!!.. passed a few people, got passed by a few people.. i was disappointed in the time because i had biked much faster when i rode the course the week before .. gives me some motivation to get on my bike and go faster and longer... 32nd split
2:02 t2 - didnt really think about what i needed this time.. socks were a pita to put on and shoes took a while to lace... need to practice without socks from now on
24:12 run - legs were a little weak in the first 2 or 3 minutes, but once i started getting a rythmn my legs turned out fine.. very relaxed.. my right calf started to cramp a little but not bad at all.. turned out i ran a lot faster than i figured i was giong to (thought MAYBE a 9 min mile, but less than 8 was awesome for me) 27th split
it was awesome to have family and friends there (they had to wake up super early to come out and see me).. i loved EVERY minute of the race - had a smile on the entire time... coolest thing by far was on my return leg on the bike the pros were just starting.. as they passed they sounded like freakin jets.. i need to manage my transitions better and i cant wait to do some olympic distances next year and this tri team for school is going to be awesome.. best sport ever ..... (now all i do is grab some clip on aero bars and some hed.3 carbon wheels)
