hey trifuel.. got another question for you guys..

this saturday.. is my first race.. sprint distance... i know its recommended to wear sunglasses during the bike because of wind and bugs and whatever.. so i have been doing that during my training and am OK in terms of seeing...

on the other hand, i wear glasses (cant do that contact thing) and am required to have corrective vision by the DMV.. would you recommend that i wear glasses instead of sunglasses during the race (even though my glasses are much smaller and allow air to pass through)...

i guess im just freakin out and thinking about minor details.. anyway, for some good news, im feeling great and get in a good mood when i think about me comin through the finish line.. i went to the first triathlon team meeting at school, and it seems like a good time..

If you've been training with the sunglasses without a problem I'd do the same in the race.

Good Luck.

I would say just wear your glasses if you are blind without them. I wouldn't worry much about air and bugs for a short distance.

You need to get some contacts (or lazik ;), the new ones they have are supposed to be super confortable and you can even wear them to bed. Trust me its easier to swim, bike and run without having to tote glasses around.

I agree stick w/what you have been doing in training. What about prescription sunglasses? My husband has a pair of prescription Oakleys...they are a little pricy but worth it for sports. If your optomitrist does not carry them I think Oakley corporate will put the prescription on for you. They are located right down here in Southern CA. Good luck on the race! What race is it? Have fun!!!

A few months ago Lance did one of the TDF time trials without his sunglasses. I believe it was in stage 4 which was 67 kilometers. I wouldn't worry about the wind. But do what you have been doing and feel comfortable with.

I'll agree with what everyone else says. Do what is comfortable. We all get caught up in so much of the little details that we drive ourselves mad trying to get everything down to an exact science. We are so worried about the mundane details that we lose sight of what we are actually trying to accomplish. Most importantly, whatever decision you make, realize to go out, have fun and finish. All of the groundwork has been laid already with the training, the rest is just cosmetic.

If you've been training without them and haven't missed any huge gaping potholes, then you should be fine :)

I have a pair of Rudy Project Rydons with lenses that snap inside, and I've been really happy with them if you want to check them out for later:

I feel your no contacts pain. I cant wear them due to chronic dry eye. My mom has the same problem, sepite a couple surgeries to enlarge her tear ducts.

I wear perscription sunglasses. Polarized, $99 at Wally World. Get em. Love em. They fog a little on REALLY humid days when youre standing still, but when youre moving, theyre fine.

Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.

xcdave,

So you've been happy with the Rudy's? I recently have been prescribed to wear bi-focals (gasp)!!! And I need a little correction in the distance. This year, I ran and cycled with just regular sunglasses, but I'm wondering how well the Rudy's work with the prescription insert?

I gotta say wearing glasses sucks during tris. I wish I had the $ to go and get that laser surgery done. But I know that as soon as I do have it I'll go and buy new zipp wheels

I love my rudy rydon sx's... I totally wish they'd make the perscription insert for worse eyes or some perscription lenses that I could swap out. Maybe sometime I will get a pair of perscription sunglasses. I know I would use them, but I just wear contacts all the time even when they're bothering me.

I've done all three.

1. Transition glasses (the kind that fade to dark or light): excellent, awesome... but really annoying when they went dark on a dim day [because of the UV]... and if you use them all the time you sometimes look dumb.

2. Prescription sunglasses: also excellent and awesome, I just wish they came in more of a "sport" style, rather than being just like regular glasses [maybe they do somewhere; they don't here]. If I'm just using them for sport, I want sport glasses.

3. Sunglasses with prescription, or regular sunglasses: great if they work for your eyes. They aren't strong enough for mine, but if they were, this is the route I'd take. I used to use regular sunglasses, way back when.

Luckily I can still go w/o prescription inserts - I like my Nike glasses with interchangable lenses.
