I am planning on buying one next spring, and have only seen the DVD's on them. My sister tried one out when she was down at a swim meet last month and loved it.

Have any of you out there in trifuel land tried one? If so what did you think--maybe it is a bit late to ask now that plans are in place, but thought a few more opinions wouldn't hurt :D

Very cool. Let me know how you like it. I don't have one but my dream house would :) BTW, they're a Trifuel advertiser, so mention you're a member to help us out ;).

Yes, we re-landscaped the back yard (and when I say "we" I mean my husband) this summer and we plan to put it in next. I see the advertisement every time I am on here and thought I might ask ....I am excited, it will be nice to not have to struggle for lap time at pools. The plan is to get it custom built a bit deeper so we can water jog too.

As if it wasn't expensive enough you had to add the most expensive word in the dictionary "custom". YIKES!
I have my dream house picked out and when I get it I will one of these in the patio.

So sad...I really want one as does my hubby but we don't have a patio big enough to put one I think. I don't think my association would go for it either. :-)

My folks bought one a couple years ago, and since they live 350+ miles away from me, I've only been in it half a dozen times or so. And, fyi, I swam Division 1 in college, so I've got a ton of swimming experience.

I found that swimming "in place" like that really helps work on small variations in form/technique and can really help your efficiency. Also, if you're rotating your shoulders or hips incorrectly, the endless pool seems to magnify that, which helps correct what for most people is the cause of their wandering off course.

They're significantly choppier than swimming in a pool, which is great practice for being in the open water, especially for those of us who do all our tris out in the ocean. Also, swimming a mile in an endless is way different than swimming a mile in a pool-and is again a great preparation for a race.

If I weren't a poor musician doing triathlons as a hobby and renting a tiny apartment to save some money every month...I'd have one and I'd be in it religiously. I bring my suit every time I go to mom and dad's house-even when it's below freezing outside, because it's that valuable a training tool.

So, to sum this all up,

GET ONE!!!!

Cheers,
Jason

If you dont mind me asking - what is even the base price for an endless? I know that they do sell the drop in thing now though, for existing pools....

base with shipping is around 20k. I am adding extra depth and the gas heater (instead of electric, more economic for heating here in the winter)... there are a bunch of add-ons you can do..think aroud 25k is what we are looking at. Much cheaper than a regular pool though. They say if you move you can take it with you, and only need to replace a few things which is cool.

Ok, how far from Vancouver do you live. I might come by and see you some time, AND check out the pool.

I think when I move back to the west side I'll move to Kirkland. Which neighborhood do you live in?? :p JK. ;)

When you say "base" is that the portion that produces the current?

I love the idea of the Trifuel christening party! Woo hoo!

Endless Party? Sounds fun to me. I might need to finally try some E-Caps for that.

My father-in-law is installing one with new home renos. Unfortuanately like Jason above he is 300 miles from me. His being the least athletic person in North America he is doing it only for the benefit of his grandchildren, most of whom are here. I am trying to find the angle to convince him to provide one for them on a day-to-day basis, i.e. in my basement.
Congrats. and enjoy. I can't imagine the joy of avoiding Lane Swim traffic.

I've seen products like this advertised for retrofit in existing pools. Are any of you familiar with those?

Does anyone know how they work for doing form drills? And how do you "track" distances? Most swim workouts are based on distance and can be easily converted to time, but the timed distance portion leaves me wondering. Example: you are doing repeats of 75 meters on say 90 seconds (hey I am slow okay), meaning you swim 75 then rest for the remainder of the time, you know what I mean.. Is that practical using these? Or do you just do long timed sessions? I really want one but just haven't talked to that many that have experience using them, that and my wife keeps vetoing my budget requests!

you swim for time basically. So if you do a 100 in 1:00 then you do 1:00 sets etc.

I guess about the only thing you really can't do with an endless pool is to monitor speed over distance. But, then again speed really comes from improving form. And all reports indicate that these pools do help you focus on form. So, probably not much of a limitation.
I'd take one in a sec!

Hey Britt- Do you have a pool already?

You might consider the fastlane by the endless pool people.

How many of you have a swim in place pool? Here Is a work out for one. Do you want more workouts?

When planning a workout for a swim - in - place pool, use your heart rate as a basis to determine the type of workout you wish to do.... Aerobic, Aenerobic or Max Vo2..

To begin this workout -

4 min warmup strokes of your choice, rest 30 seconds.

Then swim 9 minutes take a 30sec rest, then 8 min - 7 min - 6 min - 5 min - 4 min - 3 min - 2 min - 1 min (resting 30 seconds between swims)

Finish with a 4 minute cooldown. This workout takes takes 58 minutes then a 2 minute calf stretch.
