Favorite Drink for pre & post workout
I am on the Gatorade Endurance during my workout.
Afterwards I like a nice Whey Protein shake, mixed with milk, plain youghurt, bananas, a little orange juice, 1 raw egg, a little olive oil, and any berries I have in the house. MMMM MMM Good.
Brian
pre - h2o, never have time for anyhting else
my favorite post is - starbucks venti caramel frappuccino lite with 2-3 shots.
if it was a long hard workout and need some extra cals i'll 86 the lite ;)
I pefer Accelerade (Blue Rasberry) during and sometimes after as it has a 4-1 carbo-to-protein ratio, but I mostly use Endurox (Chocolate for me) for recovery. I guess I'm a little plain compared to everyone else here, guess I need to spice it up a little. :o
If a long workout - like a 5 - 7 hour bike then
E3 before,
E3 and water during,
Ultragen immediately after, and then a
Smoothie w/ protein or protein shake, and water following that.

I do Accelerade (orange) and for after....DO NOT LAUGH at this one.... SlimFast( Not the Ultra, or the low carb one , but the regular old original) in Chocolate. Like Accelerade it has a 4:1 carb/protein ratio. I often have that before a run or ride for breakfast too.
I like to drink a tall glass of cold milk and wash down my vitamins. Complex carb and protein.
I start my workout about 40 minutes later. I sip some of my during drink a few minutes before.
For a workout of 1hour or less I usually drink H20.
For after I have some water and yogurt.
For a workout of more than 1 hour I usually drink, Amino Vital mixed with Carbo Pro.
For after I have some Amino Vital/Carbo Pro Mix and some Accelerade.
Nothing to it, but to do it
For less than an hour, just water (on the bike) or nothing (running). For longer than an hour on the bike, I drink cytomax, or sometimes eFuel or Heed or Gatorade. I'm not too picky. Run training it's usually just water (I don't like carrying stuff). During a marathon I LOVED alternating cola, gatorade, water, and chicken soup broth chased with water (couldn't stand the aftertaste on that one).
I have to agree on the wheat grass taste comment but I hear it is pretty good for you. I am also not a big fan of "spring mix" salad for about the same reason. It looks like the weeds in my back yard yet the grocery store wants to charge more for it than lettuce. I don't quite get that.
Pre and during - Whatever is on sale at the time. I kinda like to try new things. Costco has a pretty big cylinder of Gatorade Powder for cheap that I am working on right now.
Post - Endurox Chocolate or Vanilla. A beer every once in a while. Coors light, Anchor Steam and Guiness are my favorites there.
When it's time to die, let us not discover that we have never lived. - Thoreau
Pre and During I use Hemmer Heed or Perpetuem and Post I use Recoverite
For short workouts,Water or Gator Aid Endurance. For long Workouts (two hours or more) Amino from the folks at Ultrafit. (branch chain amino acids,no fructose, good carbs...no electros though, so I supplement)
Post workout I've used R4 for about 5 years and feel it works for me.Lately though, using the Amino post long workouts too. Some days a really cold Pepsi...liquid carbs and sodium. Of course while not training for anything serious...beer and popsicles.

I don't drink alot during the season but I do have a beer after a bigger event.
I love the first post race beer. Yummy!!! :D
Nothing to it, but to do it
I love popsicles! mmm mmm mmm :)
I don't know... I have this whole dislike of beer (sorry, I know it's evil... ;))

 OMG
Well you do tri's so we'll let you live.
How about Margaritas??
Nothing to it, but to do it
They are ok... I've never been big on drinking (I've never been drunk...) so when I do drink it tends to be things where I can't taste the alcohol (aka girly drinks ;))
I am long past the days of drinking to get drunk ,
but I do appreciate the taste of a good beer, a good bloody mary, or a good margarita.
Of course since I don't drink too much anymore, I feel a couple of drinks.
Nothing to it, but to do it
Margaritas are great after a race. They have all the nutritional things that you need, carbs from the mix, salt that your body badly needs, a bit of alcohol to help your muscles relax and even protein if you include the worm from the tequila bottle! :D
gatorade endurance before and after and endurox after...a little Shiner Bock after a big race...

Kylie don't feel bad. I don't like beer either unless it has fruit in it - corona w/lime or hefenweisen (however that's spelled! w/ lemon). The only two I can stand. :p
I usually just drink water, sometimes gatorade before/during. After - Strawberry Shakes!

Grey Goose Martini up with olives!!!!! THE BEST
pre and during generic gatorade from costco. post i drink a protein drink actually for bodybuilders. I choose it because it is a mixture of 4 different types of protein and delivers 60 gm of protein in 2 scoops. lots of bang for the buck. i prefer the vanilla flavor mixed in oj with frozen strawberries or blue berries and if I have a bannana I will add that as well. Works great, I'm never sore the next day. Even after my century bike ride or my 18 mile run.
During heavier training this summer, I had this whole rountine: Gatorade and water during, then Endurox immediately after while in the shower letting cold water hit my legs. I know it sounds weird, but I need all the help I can get!
After that, it's a meal, then massage one leg, put ice on whatever hurts, then massage the other leg. Really helped, I was rarely sore the next day. Geez, I never had to do all these rituals before I turned 40! :D
Now that the season is over for me and I'm sorta chillin', it's a nice, full-bodied merlot or cabernet!!!

It varies for me. Summer the post drink has lots of fruit, cause it's cheap to buy. I get the older stuff from the fruit stand like 7 kiwis for 1$!! But as it wains to fall and winter THAT drops off. Mostly post workout drinks are milk w Endurox4 whey drink though.

I'm with the last guy....
Gatorade Endurance is excellent... i've tried a bunch of these and actually prefer it to my sponsor Accelorade.... I'm also a fan of AccelGel and EGels durring and Endurox is the best thing out there for recovery.... hands down!! The Cocolate used the flavoring from Yoohoo so it tastes great.... I'm also expiramenting with FRS? I'm debating if it actually helps.
Hopefully with the right blend all you'll need is Champaine after the race finish!

Christri25 starting talking about wheat grass in another thread and I was like yuk, you have got to be kidding.
It may be healthy but it tastes like I took fresh mowed lawn clippings and ground them into juice. Only way I can drink Wheat Grass is if I get an OJ chaser or something like that.
My official pre and during workout drink is Accelerade (orange or lemon lime).
My post workout drink is a Starbucks Mocha Chip Frappuccino.
