Well, that was definately a learning experience. My first venture into Olys was.. painful.

The race was run wonderfully, minus the LAME pre race orientation we were REQUIRED to attend. It was basically "Triathlon for Dummies." Lame. Lots of people in attendance, ~1200. 58 in my age group. Team in Training was there in full force. I dont know if they were exempt from the pre race meeting, if they werent, not many of em paid attention to all the directions...

Course was great! Nice warm FL lake water, 1 loop triangle swim course. Bike was one BIG loop that had a bit of everything, tailwinds, headwinds, flats and a few hills, even. Lots of cops at every intersection, and a whole lane shutdown for the race. No problems with traffic or anything. I expected more experienced riders for a longer distance event, and for the most part, I was not disappointed. There were still quite a few idiots out there who didnt stay to the right, most of em wearing the TIT purple. Annoying.

The run was a double loop. Very, very, very HOT. Only about 3/4 of a a mile of the course had any real shade. However, it was a neat loop around Epcot, and they way to the finish ran you right under the ball and out the gate past all the people cheering and clappin. It twas neat.

As for me, I underestimated the amount of running I needed to do to prep for the race and it hurt me BIG time. Not a mistake I will repeat. EVER. 9 minute miles are NOT acceptable. EVER. My biek average was ~19.5, which isnt BAD, but I def. have room for improvement. Biking and running are my main focus of the off season. I just got my rollers delivered, so even bad weather wont keep me from riding. My swim was pretty good, though I know I can do better and there is always room for improvement. I figure I drop 10 minutes off my run, which I know I can, and 10 off my bike, I am in the top 10 for sure.

Good to know where I stand at this distance and where I need to go. The off season is going to be a lot of fun. I still have one more Oly (Longleaf) and a little redneck sprint at the end of Oct.

On an end note, the Trifuel jersey did a GREAT job. Looked sharp, might have even aided flotation on the swim, and did not flutter on the bike. I LIKE it, I like it a LOT. Thanks, Tribro!

The good news is that even with my crappy run and ok swim and bike, I was 20th out of 58 @ 2:52. good to know that on a BAD day, I'm still in the upper third of my age group.

Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.

Hey congrats. It's all a learning experience eh? I remember my first Oly 2:56. Hehe, after training and planning it's down to 2:23. Keep at it. As long as you had fun right? Ya, gotta gree with the Trifuel jersey. It rocks!

Congrats. Gotta get the first one under your belt.
Not too embarass myself too much, but my first Oly was 3:05 - but it was pretty hilly, and ummm the sun was in my eyes, dog ate my training plan...
2 months later after some better training did another Oly and did that in 2:40 - felt better about that..
Did that one again the next year and did a 2:25 - top 5 in AG. So dedicated training pays off.
Good luck ---

Nice work! Glad at was a good day even if your times weren't quite where you expected. I can't share a story on my first oly, cause I don't think I've done one yet... (did a bunch of local random distance races as my first few, adn then into longer races)
