Racing your boss..
I've raced with my CIO 3 different occassions and finished before him each time. :) It's no big deal really. We talk at the christmas party, laugh about his lack of training time and talk about our races for the next year. He's a good guy and it's something that I have in common with him. You would be doing yourself and your director a disservice if you tried 'dumming' down your race performance. Just dont throw it in his face if you do finish before him. Who knows? He might surprise you :)
when you beat him and see him at the finish say " thats right b*itch, i'm the man, now get me that TPS report"

Once you toe the line, everyone's fair game!! I've trained with and raced against co-workers and bosses the past couple of years. It's almost a win/win situation, if you beat him he'll want to beat you next time, and you know that, which in turn will make you train harder to stay in front. Hopefully he’s a sportsman and not an a$$hole, and takes his beating like a man. Good luck and hammer it!!! Which race are you doing?
I used to play in a hockey league and my boss was on another team. I'd be lying to you if I said didn't try to put a body on him up every time the puck touched his stick.
The way I see it, the only bad thing about triathlon is that it is not a contact sport!!
In all honesty, I wouldn't worry about it. You guys are both out there to have a good time. Look at it as something the two of you have in common.
Thanks guys... in talking with him this morning he thinks I am going to take him on the running portion. He is a big guy from a strong swimming background, so running quickly is not in his repertiore (lucky for me).
I know everyone in my department is pulling for me. I will let you guys know how it turns out :)
Good Luck!!!!! It is always fun to have a little friendly competition with co-workers. I think it makes the workplace more interesting.
Yes - good luck and just make sure you're waiting at the finish line to hand him a bottle of water and a bagel :D
But seriously, be glad you actually have a co-worker(s) that share these activites. Most of my coworkers think I'm a fringe thrill-seekeing nut..........
Have a great race!

I got my boss and his boss to do a 5k once with some other co-workers.
None of them were prepared for it so I looked great!!
It can promote a better work environment. That if the guy is a big cheese it gives you an in.
It doesn't hurt that you are doing something active. There are studies that show if you look in shpe you will be more likely to be promoted. Also doing something outside your job like running or triathlon shows your ability to work at something and challenge yourself.

Christri - That is classic! I am sure Adeegan was looking for a serious response but I gotta love a little Office Space humor. Great movie! "Excuse me, I believe you have my stapler... "

While I worked at my old job my boss knew I was a triathlete and asked to do some training runs with me. He did a lot of 5 and 10k's so I figured why not. Like a lot of businessmen he is a talker so we kept the pace pretty steady and did some pick-ups here and there. Then every time we got back to work, he'd say how he worked the young guy. If he's that kinda guy, let him have his jokes......We'll all know the truth.....

Okay so I have a tri tomorrow and the excutive director of my division will be racing as well, he is not my direct manager but I do work pretty closely with him. I would be lying if I was not a little nervous that we will be racing against each other but also this will be the first race I actually tapered for and feel really confident for.
Has anyone had a similar expereince? Words of advice? :(
I really need to calm down, I have so much nervous energy...
