Zipp wheels -- issues!

I bought a Felt bike recently and it came with ZIPP 404 wheels. I've never had carbon wheels before and I've had trouble with them from the very beginning. On the back wheel I have never been able to get a clean seal on the tube's Presta valve through the extension. The front wheel used to work, but now I'm having the same problem with both wheels? I can still force air in them, but because the seal isn't clean, the pump needle drops to zero each stroke, so I can't tell what the PSI is.

I even changed the tubes on the wheels, just to check my sanity, but as soon as I try to inflate the new tube through the ZIPP wheel extension, I get the same problem.

I'm starting to wish I never got these fancy wheels. Has anyone else experienced something like this?

I'll buy 'em! Just give me a nice deal! ;)
Did you visit your LBS with this? I know, most of the stuff we can do on our own and I'd never have those mechanics touching my bike, but... Maybe the have a clue how to fix it.

If I'm reading it right, you are using the valve extenders because of the deep section wheels. If this is so, try 60mm valve length tubes. I have some deep section spinergy's and had no luck with the valve extenders but the long tubes have worked great for me so far. Maybe they will work for you too.

Wrap a little teflon tape around the valve stem. Then screw the extender over it. That should make it form a seal... I do that with my tufo tubular tires/extenders on my nimble fly's, but It should work fine with zipps...

2 moths ago I purchase the Zipp 606 and I had the same problem, but I fix that by using the Problem Solvers PV Extender w/ Valve Silver, it work all the time and I love it. let me send you the link for it.

Thanks everyone for your advice. I'm sure the tape would have worked, but I ended up just getting new tubes with longer valves and throwing out those nifty black valve extensions that gave me such a hard time. Now my wheels are idiot-proof again.

Now if I could just figure out this damn Cateye Bike computer....

For Zipp 404's you need 80 mm valves, which they do make but can be hard to find. Ditto on the Teflon tape if you use valve extenders. Also you can buy aluminum valve extenders that have a mechanism that screws into the valve stem allowing you to open and close the valve. I've found these to be much better than the black plastic ones that ship with the Zipps
