I have just completed my fifth and final race of my first year of competing in triathlons. I love these races and am officially hooked on this sport. My question to all of you is what do i do now. For the next 3-4 months, how do i change my workout.. I know i need to get better swimming so i plan on devoting a lot of time to technique but as far as biking and running...how much do i do? i live in Oklahoma so it will get cold here. also what is a good off season tri-specific weight tranining program. I love the gym and am looking forward to pumping some iron but i want to do things that will help me in my new sport. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

Base workouts. Longer, slower, focus on technique in all sports. I just do core exercises anymore. Pushups, situps, crunches, pull ups, squats. I do a large number (work up to 10 sets of 10) of reps, wether i use weights or not. I also shift from road biking to Mtn biking, as the mosquitos down here go away and you can stay out for more than two hours without drowning in the humidity. I love the off season, but I do tend to miss racing!

Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.

Joe Friel's Triathlon bible is the best. It covers EVERYTHING for training.

I'll second Joe Friel's Training Bible and add in recommendations for Chris Carmichael's Food for Fitness and Ken Mierke's Run Training for Triathlete's. I'm currently going back and forth through all three to put together a training and nutrition plan for next year.
