Desiree Ficker
My company used to coach Desiree when she lived in Maryland. She is incredibly nice and a gifted, hardworking athlete. I think long course racing will require a shift to less aggressive cycling. She is so strong on the bike that, in an olympic distance race, she can ride away from a feld of pro women duathletes and hold on in the run. In ironman racing, that level of aggression won't work. As Gordo Byrn says, "Cycling strength is like a nuclear arsenal - most effective when not used." Desiree is still pretty young and I think we'll keep hearing her name at the top. Ken

She featured as one of the rising long-course stars in this months Triathlete mag (she's also on the cover). I don't know too much about her ability, but I did see her race when I competed at IM LP this year. I would have to say that Ken is right. I passed her on the run, her bike time was good, but evidently too good, as she walked at least 2/3 of the run course. She does have some outstanding long-course finishes this year.

I had the pleasure of watching her race the pro race at the Duathlon world champs in GA a few years ago...she was...breathtaking. Saw her walk most of the Marathon at IMLP this year and she was still...breathtaking AND the consumate pro. I seen other pros bail if it was obvious they wern't going to have the day go their way. She didn't and it spoke volumes. Besides it's nice to have a local girl do good...

Yeah not much of a website. Just a static photo, clickable sponsor icons and her lawyer's email!

I remember last year when Lessing bailed at Kona. Big disapointment.
My first goal is alway to finish, run ,walk or crawl. I am crossing the finish line.

Jessi Stensland has a SMOKIN body, but Desiree is prettier, so I think. I would love to train with either one!

I'd be happy to get passed. Just for the view.
They might pass to fast you might not have time to enjoy the view. :D

Actually, I'd probably be behind from the start and wouldn;t make it back to even see them on the podium.
If you want to talk about a hot female pro you've got to mention Leanda Cave

Because of all those fast passing girls we lose concentration. We simply can't focus on the race any longer. Just one solution:  sunglasses
On our club ride a girl from another local team joined us. She was so hot I just forgot breathing when drafting behind her.
To involve the females represented in this board: Which pro-triathlete is your favourite? And do you get as nervous as we get with the girls??
I get nervous meeting any of the pros -- male or female! However, some of my favorites:
* Nicole Deboom (who it looks like will be racing at the Malibu tri this weekend -- too bad I'm missing it)
* Matt and Chris Lieto (I think the little connection to them through here makes them way more fun to cheer for -- almost like cheering for friends or family)
* Tim Don, Courtney Atkinson (since ITU is on OLN I know them)
* Annabel Luxford, Emma Snowsill
I guess if you want to know which pro I think is hottest you are out of luck -- I'm a sucker for toned bodies, so they are all fun to look at!
I was checking out Desiree Fickers bio and found out she was in a sprint tri I did a couple of years ago. I left a few minutes after I was done so I didn't see the awards but apparently she won.
Otherwise being in NJ I haven't seen to many celebs like you guys.
When I did the Ford NY Tri David Duchovney was doing it. but I didn't meet him.
I only saw a guy about 6 ft tall in his wetsuit wave at the crowd.
From about 100 m away
When I did the Delaware Diamondman 1/2 Iron distance Ken Glah won that.
I actually met him and he was real cool.
I agree with Kylie, It is nice to see toned bodies running around. Only see them briefly
Usually it is in transition.
There are fast cute ones- who are way ahead of me.
There are slow cute ones who are way behind me.
How about some medium speed cute ones?

Speaking of celebs doing tris. Have you heard this guy from Jag is supposed to be doing Kona this year? I dunno what his name is.

I think it is David James Elliot. He was profiled in Runners World some time ago.
I think he mentioned doing triathlons too.
Nothing to it, but to do it
The best think is, that triatlhetes look more "normal" than peaking cyclists or runners. They just become totally slim, but because of the muscle defining swim portion the pros look way better.
But with some of the pro females I have this problem that they look quite like males, because of the reason mentioned above.
inlovewithcerve, who is hitting the road again to gain some muscles...

So are you saying the girls are too 'manly'? or are the men to 'girly'
Are you being a 'girly man'? You need some pumpatude. :D

you know...I would of course love to be skinnier and to run faster (Who wouldnt) That being said, I would never trade my hips and b00bs for looking the way some women marathoners or triathletes look to run faster.
good call brittda

Since the fast ones traded in speed and lost the curves :D

LOL... I think that just about any guy within an appropriate age range that is faster than me (I'm not fast) will be hot... the ones that do tri's but, i can beat them, are still way more likely to be hot than the average guy... But no if I'm coming up on a cute guy, I'm sure as heck not going to slow down to look at them... they're not going to see me unless I pass them...
Oh and I know a couple of guys who apparently really like my arms and definitely don't think that they are manly even though I was a swimmer before I started doing tri's... but then again, I'm no pro either...
Kona, 3rd week in October, is the sexiest place on earth.
Even the spouses/partners of the competitors are toned, tanned, and tasty.
and best of all, they don't get to wear wetsuits at the start :D
All week long you see beautiful bodies up and down Alii Drive, walking, shopping, hydrating, some fools "test riding" their bikes to see everything works - "I'm just going to take it out to the Hilton and back, Honey. Of course I'll be back for dinner!" - about 50 miles!
Breathtaking.
I'll dig up some pix for you from a few years ago.

Don't get me wrong, I'd never trade any girls b00bs against her faster running split either. Let them be slow, as long as they are hot, who cares. And I have not too many not-hot tri girls around. I am looking forward to watch next years Quelle Challenge Roth (the former IM Germany, until Frankfurt became that one).
With Bjorn Anderssons P3C and some hot girls this is going to be a great day! They have cheerleaders, haven't they?
(Just to get it right: We are doing tris because we lack social contacts. We lack social contacts bcause we train so much. We train so much because we do tris. And to compensate the social discomfort we do tris to check out hot girls... That is so easy, but you have to think about it. I am glad I understood it finally)

LOL.
Sure cerve-lover, you keep telling yourself that!
We know the truth.
I was drooling over Wendy Ingram's TYR ads for years before I did a tri, those shoulders, that back! Not to mention those glutes.
And why not (do tris)? You get to hang out with the healthiest, best looking people on the planet.

Darwin was right.
We think fit people are more attractive because they can survive better in the world.
People become fit all over, get lean, and strong from the cross training of swim, bike, run.
Triathlon does that.
So now I feel better that I have a scientific excuse to check out the amazing tri women.
and to quote CAcyclingFAN "All girls who tri are sexy in my book! " :D
