I am new to the whole triathlon training. I recently started a triathlon training plan and yesterday was my first swim day. I was hit hard with reality.

I grew up on an island and was under the impression that I could swim.

Boy was I wrong. Swimmimg in the ocean while you surf and swimming face down in a pool while you follow a black line is a huge diffrence.

Anyone know where i can get some good material on proper swimming techniques for triathlon. Videos/internet site/books ?? I do not have the option of taking a swim class as I am currently living in Germany and do not speak the language.

Any help would be appreciated. thanks.

It makes it look so easy. I was a non-swimmer, and now I am competent in training. Racing, I don't know, but I am doing fine in the pool.

Give TI a hit, as mentioned above, but also look into a masters program. A fe wmonths with a coach will have ya swimming along quite nicely.
I always knew I could swim, but just swimming, and swimming competitively are two different things. You'll get it with a little help.

Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.
