Why I'll be a DeSoto triathlete forever

I wish that triathlon clothing came in my size ( I'm overweight) it doesn't, I deal with it, I move on. But I was curious to know if some of the key triathlon manufacturers like De Soto, Sugoi would ever do a custom tri-suit, so I sent an e-mail to each company asking them, explaining my situation.

Last week I received an e-mail from Emilio Do Soto that said they can make anything in the world for anyone, but with it comes a price. They had just finished a beautiful skinsuit for a woman that is celebrating dropping from 325 to just under 200 lbs. It cost her a little over $650.00.

That's way too much, especially for an interim suit so I said thanks but no thanks, guess I'll just need to wait another year. Then he asked me about my measurements as he thought the XXL Unisex Tri Short would work. So I told him and this is what I got back from him:

"They may work. Tell you what, send me your address and I will send you a pair for free. If they fit, then you can keep them and maybe consider buying more. If they do not fit, keep them as a goal to achieve in your pursuit of your triathlon training and racing."

You can just imagine my reaction when he said that :) I was so blown away by his generousity.

Today I received my DeSoto tri-shorts, and they fit. :) I think the true test will come when I go cycling as they are a little snug on my tummy, I really had to squish my tummy in to get the fabric over them *lol* but they fit great in the hips & thighs - it's just the damn tummy. I wish I had tried these sooner so I could have raced all season in them. The padding is not at all what I thought they would be - I've never seen the inside of tri-shorts. Hopefully by next summer I'll be able to get a proper tri-top so I can actually swim, bike and run in one suit all the way through.

And that is why I'll be a DeSoto triathlete forever!!!

Hey, any chance you're from "Toronto"??

Great story. It's good to hear that bigger companies like that are looking out for us all and making that extra effort to help.

I'll definitely keep DeSoto in mind in the future. It's always great to see companies looking out for the everyday athlete.

Good luck with the training and racing.

DeSoto sale at trisports.com now. Lots of great item at 30-40% off!! I'm planning on checking it out. I like shopping from nice companies!

Wow...now that is definately a company that wants your business. I'm impressed!

So....what you're saying is....benching 1.5 times your body weight 10+ times is NOT good for triathletes?! OOOOOH! :D

I just got the e-mail about De Soto stuff being on sale from Trisports too.
http://www.trisports.com/desoto.html

I have several pair of tri shorts and a top from them.
They are the brand I have and I have been very happy with them.

The other top I have is a Tyr and that is the Trifuel one, ask Tribro for availability.

That is really great! The only thing I have that is DeSoto is my beloved bag which I often find myself using for weekend getaways too.

I haven't been buying cycling shorts or jerseys because like you said, they would only be interim wear while losing weight. It seems like a waste to spend 50-60 dollars on shorts you may not get to wear very long (crossing my fingers). The tri-shorts that I bought in June are already too big. I try to find stuff on clearance but then you don't get a great selection.

Check the sales and clearances now.

Still a lot of selection in all sizes.

I'm sure they will have plenty of smalls left for you for the spring ;)
