Any thoughts on which is better? I have done both in the past. Pilates really helped strengthen my core, but yoga helped with my terrible flexability. Because of the schedule at my club, I can really only do on or the other. Which to choose?

In my opinion it is a personal opinion. If you are having more problems with core strengthening, pilates might be the way to go. If flexibility is your problem (like mine) i would go with Yoga. One thought might be alternate. One for a cycle of maybe a week, 2,3,4, etc. Then flip flop and do yoga. The nice thing about both is you can do either on your own without a class. Get up 15 minutes earlier in the morning and put yourself through a routine then hop in the shower and be on your way.

They're both really good for you. I found yoga to be mostly relaxing for me and helps untighten my body. Pilates helps straighten out my posture, strengthen my core, hip flexors and back - all areas that I have trouble with.

I guess it just depends on what you need and what you have time for. If you only have time for one at the gym, I would take yoga and then order the Mari Winsor Pilates DVD (the one on TV with Daisy Fuentes). She is not annoying, kicks your butt and makes you feel like a different woman. I have the whole set and love it. I also came to find that a bunch of my friends have it as well. Kind of a cult deal. ;)

Good luck

Thanks:) I think the idea of doing yoga at the gym and then pilates with the cd is a good one. I do have the Windsor Pilates series, and you are right Toni, they kick your butt. I know when I do those I really can tell a difference. I am just in need of some flexability which is why I want to get some yoga in too.

That's what I do here, but I tend to do more Pilates than Yoga. I can't really do Yoga on my own (mindset), but I can do Pilates anywhere, anytime. If only I would just sit my butt down and do 'em. :)

I agree with you all. It really depends on what you are looking for. Flexibility is a key factor is running but if you are going for longer distances I have found the my core both front and back becomes fatigued. So the Yoga will give you flexibility, strength and relaxation while the pilates will give you that core strength.

I have been doing both for ~8 years. Personally yoga is better for me. But like others here have said try both ... alternate weeks or months etc. I cannot say enough good things about yoga - for me it is has just as much of an impact on my life as triathlon.

You should try Bikram Yoga, It is not relaxing and I doubt anyone here that has not done yoga could last an entire 90 minute class.....
