Hey Guys, just wanted to check in and say thanks for all the support during IM Wisconsin. I know a lot of you were cheering from afar and watching on line. It means a lot to know people are out there with good vibes.

I am still in the cheese state, but headed back home tonight. I will write a full race report most likely tomorrow. But the jist- just about as bad a day I could have had, worst day ever racing, besides Kona last year. Definately taking the positives from it though, 93 degrees and humid, if you'd told me that a week ago, I wouldn't of thought I could finish. Humidity is my achilles, my body just doesn't cool. Learned how to tough it out, and had enough to "sprint" the last 1/2 mile(@8:00 pace) as to break the 10 hour mark. I didn't wan't to deal with the ribbing I would've gotten from my buddies.

Stats from various IMNA officials.
93 degrees (record for IMWI) 1 degree of City record heat
"Kona like" hard up to find a worse day at Kona
20% DNF rate, worst in memory. 10-12 % at a few of the toughest days previously at IM events.
250 out during or after bike, pulling out or not making cut off.
17 under 10 hrs, 73 under 11hrs- this stat boggles me
Race still sold out in under 5 hrs!!! We all must be crazy

Thanks again guys, and for what it's worth, the course is tough, but I'm still thinking of making it my IM next year!

Nice one, Matt. Dang, that was a tough day. Attrition rate was outrageous. Hard to believe no sub-9's either. Friggin' crazy. See you at the pool at some point.

Congrats Matt, it looked tough. Saw you on IMLive though. Under 10 is impressive for those conditions. Looking forward to your report.

Good job Matt,

Saw you shortly after the turn-around for the start of the second run loop.
You seemed to still have lots of energy - playing up to the crowd!

Again nice race - especially in those conditions - hopin' for cool weather next year as I was one of the crazies signing up for next year - so see ya there!

Congrats Matt! It must feel great to know you finished under 10 even with your own personal enemy trying to overheat you.

ditto to Amy. Way to finish and not let it get the best of you no matter how much it sucked. The attrition rate was amazing though. Definitely brought it into perspective.

Can't wait to hear the report. Congrats on your finish!

I know you are disappointed with your results, but look at the conditions…you kicked ass!!!! :D I know this you is “job and all, but finishing under 10 hours, WOW!!!. I sure the sign I made for you out on the run course gave you that extra energy for the “sprint. Coming from the West coast, I lived in Pleasant Hill, Ca until April, and then experiencing the humidity out here…it’s awful. Unfortunately there’s no way to emulate the situation in order to properly prepare for it. You just got to get out there and try your best; which is exactly what you did. Therefore you should be proud of your accomplishment. I know we are all proud of you, for whatever that’s worth. :p Congratulations Matt!!!!
