:D I just bought 4 or so Nashbar self-sealing tubes, and was wondering what everyone else uses. Ive had nothing but problems with the Bontrager tubes (could be user error), so we will see how these self sealing tubes workout. What do you guys use? Criticism?

I never had much luck with slime stuff in road tires. I use the Continental 700 Race tubes. Seem to work fine for me. The thicker thorn resistant tubes work great on my mountain bike but really degrade the performance of my road wheels so I just stick with the standard Continental tubes with NO slime. So what kind of problems are you having?

Well with the Bontrager's they were just poking tiny holes in the tubes. Annoying. I thought they were pinch flats, but when I put the Nashbar's in there - rode 20miles, and not a problem. Hmmm.

I've had one flat on the stock Bontrager tubes in 6 months. And thats cause I was forced to ride over a ton of glass. The added weight of the self sealers arent worth it, IMHO. Just keep your tires inflated, and keep a patch kit with ya.

Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.

I wish. With a family this is NOT allowed. Your lucky man. I get my tubes from Mountain Equipment Co-op. Buy them for 2.75 each and 6 at a time. That lasts me about half a year. I use kevlar tires for commuting and around for both bikes so it seems to keep the flats down, oops I hope I just didn't jinx myself :D

The best advice is to put air in before every ride to prevent pinch flats. And when a flat occurs, before you put everything back together, run your fingers (Carefully!) along the inside of the tire to make sure there is nothing left sticking in it that is just going to flat the next tube.
