I've just relocated to NC, and luckily, it's not as humid as friends have warned. The roads around me do not seem too biker friendly, and I was hoping to get some input on good biking/running trails, and good places to swim.

I have to agree, the area is not too friendly for cyclists. I have driven out aways to get on my bike, which is a little frustrating. Be careful of some of the drivers.... Jordan Lake is great to swim in, off Ebenezer church road, can go outside of the roped off swimming area but inside the buoys from boats. Biking is great out there too. There are some greenways in raleigh, easy to find some maps on the web if you google them. I just went for a run on the American Tobacco Trail this morning, it was dreamy. Wide, soft path with few to no hills and shade, and you can get in 12 miles out/back. Umstead park is good trail running, there's a wide path there too, the park is pretty hilly.

The humidity has dramatically improved in the last week, gotta love that! :)

So....what you're saying is....benching 1.5 times your body weight 10+ times is NOT good for triathletes?! OOOOOH! :D

Thanks for the map, it's great! Been riding lately up in Caswell county on the weekends, nice to get out of dodge for a few hours. It's only about an hour and fifteen from Raleigh. You can find a map at caswellcountync.gov.

There are a lot of rides at ncbikeclub.org. Try the ones that start at Blue Jay Point near Falls Lake which is minutes from Raleigh, if not still in Raleigh I guess. There's some traffic around the Lake areas but beyond that it's pretty open. I recently did most of the "Wilton Ruins" ride which was 80-some miles. Besides from a hairy section on 158, hardly seen a car at all. You can see some pics of that ride on my blog under the "Cycling Carolina Post" August 8th.

Hey Raleigh-ites,

Different topic, but Inside-Out in Cary has some old, rental wetsuits for sale if you're in the market for a cheap, starter one. Just an fyi.....
