increasing bike distance
I dunno about that. Ive heard abut the 10 percent rule.
Seems a bit exaggerated i think.
I mean. If you can do 100 km in week one. then week two u should be able to do 110. Then week 3 like 123.
and the thing is, those 10 percent get bigger and bigger. I mean after 2 months you should be able to do 200km??then month 3 would be like 270.km
"You can quit, and they don't care..but you will always know"
I had never been over about 20 miles until about a month and a half ago...
I went on a 50 mile ride with a young man going for his boyscout cycling merit badge...
It wasn't that big of a stretch for me, Im sure you will do fine if you have been putting in several (3-4) rides a week with a minimum of 15-20 miles each...
ESPECIALLY if you have 2 days to do it ...
I would think that if you can work up to where you have done a couple of 75 mi rides then you will be fine..
(I would taper just like for a race though...)
and make sure you have plenty of "food" and water/sports drink

Are you looking to simply finish the ride or go the whole way at a fast pace as if you were in a long distance tri? I am a complete tri newbie (first race, an olympic, in a few weeks), but have done this sort of bike ride before and found that I did not have to train as much as I thought... it wasn't a race after all.
To prepare I had been commuting daily approx 5-6 miles each way across easy terrain, and would take weekend rides up the local hills (was living on the NE side of San Jose at the time) to get my climbing in. To prepare, myself and my MS-150 teammates did a 40-50 mile ride through rolling hills the weekend before the MS-150... we were going to try 75 miles each day. 75 on the first day was fine, but on the 2nd I copped out and did 50 as the temperature was well over 100 degrees.
(By the way, is this waves to wine? this was the ride I did and it was a wonderful course. I'd like to do it again).
I know how it works in running because of the impact on your legs,
but does the 10 percent rule apply for Cycling?
Nothing to it, but to do it

i know the rule is 10% per week, but is that total miles or LSD rides?
I am trying to build up to do the MS150 (it is in early OCT.) but i don't think i have enough time. My last LSD was 32 but that is with out stopping so i figure if i could stop and take breaks along the way, i might be able to make it. Oh yeah it is 2 days to do it.
What's the rule?
