IM Registration
Most of them you can do on line from what I can tell.. .Coeur D'Alene still has openings as of yesterday when I went out there to register. I know Arizona and Florida do too. Canada you have to register on site the day after the race. I am going to go up next year to register for 07, you can have someone register for you--you can sign your self and one other person up. If you still want to do it next year , let me know and I can sign you up :)
The offical IM events (in the US and Can.) are difficult to get into. Open registration is selling out within hours of opening (many times there are no spots offered online). The best bet is to be at the event, you don't need to compete, just be there to register for next years race. Any remaining spots are then offered online thru the race website. I've never registered this way, but I hear you need to be Johny on the spot to pick-up on of the remaining slots offered online. Each race site will tell you if the general entry is open. There is also the Community Fund, which allows entry after the race is closed to general entry, but the fee is $1000 half of which goes to charity (you can write it off!).
Check out the race websites under entry and see what IM race are still open. The last I checked IM Arizona was still open for general entry! I know IM Lake Placid and as you mentioned Can. are full for next year. Remember, IM FL. is run in Nov. So, the registration will open the Mon. following the race. Good Luck!

I crashed in my car for a few hours after the fireworks ended on Sunday night after IMC.
Then I drove over to Lakeshore near the Registration area. There were a hundred people in line - asleep in tents or bivouacing.
Then it started to rain.
I quickly set up my tent and climbed in. The wind blew it flat about 4am but the fibreglas rods bounced it straight back up. It happened 3 or 4 times more. I awoke at about 8:30am and crawled out to get coffee. By 9am when registering started for the 2006 race the line was half a mile long. All 2,000 plus spots were taken by 1pm.
The fee was $575 CDN - they took in $1,265,000.00 CDN in 4 hours!
Although slightly soggy, I am one happy camper.

Just wondering how one goes about registering for Ironman. I wanted to do IMC 2006, but it was sold out, and it appears you had to be there to do that. Are most of them like this? I'm now looking at IMWI 2006, and I don't want the same thing to happen again.
